Got Code 214

I pulled the codes and got 214. I did a search and plan on replacing the CID this weekend. It bucked on me once and the check engine light popped on but then it went away, havent really seen problems sense. How hard of a job is this? I also noticed one day after starting my car the tach was at zero then all the sudden it kicked in. I also have had hard starts one or twice. This all points to CID, correct? This is on the 92. The 214 code and symptoms you describe are indicative of a failing cylinder identification sensor. It is attached to the rear bank exhaust camshaft's passenger end with two 5.5mm (7/32") screws and is best accessed after relocating the power steering fluid reservoir. Here are some photos of the sensor and its location. The Wells F134 is available from AutoZone for $29.99.

if im correct the tach is controlled by the CPS, not the CID, so that doesnt sound too good. check the bolts on your crossover tube and the ground strap on the intake. its possible your DIS ground isnt very good. once i left the bolts out like an idiot and i had all sorts of errors coming up. good luck and let us know what happens.

So its easy to do? Just move the power steering reservior out of the way?

On a side note, I just got my cell phone bill and it was almost $150 bucks. So the CID may have to wait. Is it just going to get worse? It happened to me for a second time today, it died backing out of my driveway then it didnt want to restart. headbang Since, the part is cheap, I'm gonna try to swing it, but $ is low right now.

No worries mate! It is much safer to walk while talking on the cell phone anyway. I would hope that that $150 cell phone bill is not for idle chit-chat!

There are only two numbers I want to see on my kids cell phone bills, and those are "911" and the number for "AAA". (Yea, right!) headbang

The things necessary to sustain life have been upgraded to include a car, a credit card, cable TV, and a bloody cell phone. Canadian wilderness here I come. No phone, no TV, no radio, no cell phone, no indoor plumbing, living off the land, no wind surfers wink , life is good. oh_my rangerj

The tach signal IDM requires both the CID and the CPS signals to be present. Absence of either will make the tach go to zero. Of course, the CPS signal will keep it from running, the loss of the CID signal can be overridden by the PCM.

You can always unplug the CID for diagnostic purposes. You will encounter multiple start attempts and no tach, but once the engine is running, it doesn't care anymore about the lack of the CID signal and will run just fine without it. If the stalling/bucking problem goes away while the CID is unplugged, you know that the CID sensor is at fault.

Yeah ain't that the truth, I would put off the bill but I owe my dad for it and he has my head in a visegrip! eek! Anyway this is what is planned for this weekend:

Thermostat
Cleaning IAB
Fog light mod
Cone Removal
Wax and anything else I happen to find along the way...

With that she should be running beatifully and looking great! (or at least I hope so)
