Hey everyone,

I got a question for everyone. A kid that I work with has a 91 SHO, I dont know all the details of the car, but it is not a plus, I belive. Anywho, he fell asleep driving home from his other job one night and blasted the p/s front off of a parked car. He showed me pictures in his hotmail inbox, the front end looks square but the hood, headlight and fender are all jacked up. He says that the car runs and drives and the a/c still works. The car is originally from NY and seems to have a bit of rust here and there, all the typical gen 1 spots. The interior was immaculate but he traded it out to one of his sho buddies so now it has a beat up titanium interior. He also did the rod shifter conversion. He will probably take about 150 for the car, and like i said it runs. I think some sheet metal will fix the car, but the crummy interior and now the rust, I dont really care to put it back on the road. Now my problem/question. The only stuff that I am interested in is the engine/trans on the subframe, sway bars, headliner(if it is compatable with a gen2) and the rear knuckles. I live in florida and really dont have any place to put the car. Do you think i could take it to the junk yard and ask them to remove the subframe with the trans and wiring harness/a/c lines and burn off the rear knuckles for me, if I told them they could have the rest of the car. The junk yard is the only place I can think of that would have a lift that could drop the subframe out the bottom and not have a problem moving the car once it had no suspension to sit on. I assume I will have to pay for labor, but I dont know what I am looking at on this.

Anyone have any ideas?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks a lot!

You could always drop the entire SF out of the car on your property, peice it out, then lift the car onto a flatbed and junk it. You could use a oversized dolley to do this.

For a 75 or so dollar tow to the junkyard you could easily squeeze 700 bucks out of a rod shifter and an entire running condition drivetrain. Nevermind all of the other odds and ends you can peice out of the car. Trannys go for 300 minimum thats double your money right there.

Parts car

I would like to take it out in my drive way, but the problem is lifting the body of the car up over the engine. I figure if I drive it to the junkyard i dont have to pay any towing. Or perhaps, I could swap my knuckles onto the parts car, upgrade gen2 to gen 1 brakes. Then drive it to the junkyard after I took the odds and ends that I wanted. Then just have them take the motor out...?

IMO, it's easier to just pull it from the top.

it probably dosent help you much but we had a skidsteer availible when we parted out the 94. i undid the subframe and everything else and just picked it up. and shoved the shell onto the trailer. sold the running 3.2 for 400 and that was with no tranny (had a hole blown right through the case)

Why do you want the rear knuckles? They are all identical, 90 thru 95. Its the backing plates, brackets, rotors, pads, hubs and calipers that are different. Those can removed and the wheels can still be re-installed on the car. No rear brakes, of course.

oh, i didnt know that about the rear hubs... I wasnt sure what all was involved in swapping to the gen1 brakes. I wasnt really worried about doing a swap but since i will have teh parts, figured i might as well...
