Ok i did the computer swap the other day in my 93 atx to the 94 d4u1 computer. My sho is going to ford tommorow to have my brother check my tranny problems. I was wondering if they try to pull the codes or any thing will they have trouble since it isn't the right computer in there? And a few weeks ago i put in some indglo guages. i had to fix some of my needles. and one of them was my tach. Well it was fixed before i put that computer in there and now my needle is messed up again. is that from the computer. Just wondering??

Thanks

I read a TSB several days ago were FORD advised not to swap copmuters that the trannys and computer shift points were not compatible. It indicated for the mechs to verify that the correct computer was installed.

TSB = Technical Service Bulliten

It's not a recall, but more of an announcement of a problem or technique and instructions on how to remedy the problem.

So will they have trouble pulling my codes with that computer in there??? Cause i told my bro about it before i gave it to him.. But he works at ford and he was going to have the tranny guy there look at it. Proablly replace the vss and do a tranny flush... :( But i still think the tranny is gone!!!! But i am really wondering about if they will have problems with the D4u1 computer in there??

I have the mentioned swap and have never experienced any problems either pulling codes or anything else....I think it is just another over worrisome Ford bulletin..

That does not apply to a 93..They are AXOD-E trans. The TSB is telling you not to use a computer from a 94-95(AX4S) in a 96 up(AX4N)or vice versa. Due to the differences in the electronic controls of those 2 trans. It is ok to use the D4U1 in the 93.

I'm not so sure. The date of the TSB is 1994 - long before the 1996 models came out.

Read the TSB a little more closely.

All Gen II ATX SHO's use the AX4S tranny. A handful of '94 3.0L SLO's/Sables, and all '95 3.0L SLO's/Sables used the AX4N tranny.

What the TSB is saying, is don't interchange the PCM/EEC between AX4S & AX4N cars. Since I doubt anyone would ever want a SLO PCM in their SHO, this problem does not apply to SHO's. What it is saying, is if you take a PCM from a SLO/Sable with an AX4S tranny and put it in one with the AX4N tranny (or vice versa), that there may be problems. This would also apply if someone tried using a SHO PCM in a SLO/Sable with the AX4N.

FWIW, the AX4S and AX4N both decended from the AXOD-E, and are all VERY similar in most respects.

94 & 95 SHO's used the AX4S
93's used the AXOD-E

And yes, all that TSB is saying is don't interchange the computers between the AX4S and the AX4N. It would be bad considering that the AX4S is synchro'd and the AX4N computer wouldn't have any control over that.
