I'm going to look at a 98 ES tomorrow, had a few questions since it's been awhile since I owned a SHO.
I ran a carfax, the guy says it has 110k miles, but its last reported mileage was at 111k in 2004. Now the car looks like it has only 100k on it (not much wear on the bolsters, almost no rust, dash isn't pulling away from the gauge cluster etc) but I'm a little confused. The guy said it must have been sitting for a long time when he got it. It's had 12 owners in 14 years so maybe...it had 60k on it in 2000, which seems like alot in the first 2 years.
the VIN in case anyone wants to look at it:
I thought their was a Cam weld registry somewhere, the guy doesn't know much about the car so he couldn't tell me if they were welded, and I couldn't find a database on v8sho.com. I'm going to assume they aren't. He said he just had the alternator replaced (bleh!) and he thinks the A/C needs to be recharged. He told me for sure the compressor was ok (i heard it kick on a few times while looking at it tonight) but I'll see what its doing tomorrow when i drive it. I had my 99 for 160k miles and never refilled the A/C :/
So just a few questions I guess, is their a SHO cam weld registry somewhere I didn't see, and also is their anything I should look for transmission wise? I beat on mine and I had the torque converter fail at 100k and it was going out again at 160k, so I know how to tell when it bangs really hard into 2nd when it first starts up, but are their any other clues? Also the mileage, it really looks like it's 100k miles but the carfax lists it at slow intervals up to 111k in 2004, then nothing after that. What would I be looking at? Cam failure and it just sat for a long time or something else? I didn't check the odometer, he says it just barely has 110 but that sounds like somebody tampered with it - and I would assume that except for the condition of the car. He's also asking quite a bit less than I'd think it'd be worth. I figured it'd be around a 3000-3500 car (almost no rust, no significant body damage, everything seems to be working). Any thoughts?
