I just got back from taking the SHO for a nice drive when I noticed the oil light flicker. I had replenished most of a quart a few weeks back, so I figured it would be okay. Not so. I got back to find the oil level very low again.

What I can't seem to figure out, is where it's going!! I've looked under the engine, and the two oil sensors on the back are completely dry. No oil or anything on them. The engine bay always has a burned oily smell to it, that changes when I change the oil. What it seems to be is that somewhere the oil is leaking onto the exhaust manifolds or pipe and burning up, leaving no traces of its dastardly location. I'm sure someone has to have seen this problem before, as if it was going out the exhaust, I don't think the engine bay would have the distinctive smell it does.

I can't stand worrying about my engine being low on oil anymore!!! cuss Any advice to troubleshoot this leak's location is appreciated.

NB: I do have a little oil in the plug wells which I plan to rectify when I do my 60k sometime this summer.

Thanks,
Chris

The 60k should resolve any issue of the engine burning oil.

As for leaking onto the exhaust (probably the cats right?), well, the 60k should fix that as well. More than likely the cam seals or the front mail are leaking, dribbling down the block, then dripping onto the exhaust.

You didn't mention how many miles your SHO has, when these engines get some significant miles on them they have a dendency to use up some oil enternally. Nothing to worry about, the key here is that you need to be checking your oil on a more regular basis than you are, and NotSoSlowSHO is probably right about the source of the leaks, except he didn't mention the oil pan, which can be leaking also.
