I read the TSB from ford regarding the Sub Frame Clunk:

TSB 97-2-3

I am experiencing this problem so I called over to my local Ford and gave them the P/N listed in the TSB which is F7DZ-5400155-AA and asked if they had any and how much they were. He said yeah and that they were 10.88 each and they had 2 in stock. I went in a couple of hours later to pick them up and the guy that helped me said that Ford had replaced that P/N with a new P/N (three times to be exact) and the new P/N was YF1Z-5400155-AA. He said that they should still fix my problem. I went to pay for them and they were around 17.50 each. I complained about my bad info that I was given on the phone and he said that he could honor the 10.88 price and I bought them. I expected them to be 2 halves but there is only 1 piece for each side. Is this the right part and do I need to other half of the bushing?

Thanks,
Brad

From anothor thread:

"FWIW, I got an illustrated parts list from a local dealer with the part numbers for the Gen 3 setup.

Front SFB: F6DZ-5400155-A My cost $22.12 each
Rear Upper: F6DZ-5400396-A "" $11.07 each
Rear Lower: YF1Z-5400155-AA "" $10.88 each

The rear SFBs are indeed two-part, each with a separate part number."

FWIW, I just ordered two of each from www.fordpartsonline.com for a total of 66 bucks plus S&H. They were a couple dollars cheaper than was Torrie.

I decided to go with the front Gen 3 bushings on my 89. I guess I'll find out how it works.

Thank you for the help everyone!

The good news is that I did get my bushings swapped out. The bad news is that the noise is still there! The TSB (97-2-3 I believe) said that it the bushings corrected a problem of clunking during heavy acceleration or braking. My problem seems farther back in the car than the rear subframe bushings and it occurs only at very low speeds or when I'm stopped. If I back out of a parking spot and change gears into drive while I am turning the wheel it will sometimes make a "pop" sound. And like I said, it sounds more form the back than the front. Rear sway bar bushings possibly?

Thoughts?

Thanks in Advance!
Brad

It may be your front sway bar bushings or your front end links. If it's further back it could be the same back there. The ride height sensors are notorious for making noise too. Mine are in the shed.

Wow! Almost 10 years later :) I think Dorman makes some, but not sure how well they work ...
