Slipping, loss of one or more gears. You will hear people telling you that flushing your ATX isn't good. When I first got my car, it had 86k on it. I had it flushed using Valvolines T-Tech for $75.99. Never had a problem since then. The lines they hooked up were clear and I could see the old fluid coming out. It was a very dark cherry color. I'm not endorsing ATX flushes, just giving you my input. wink

There have been arguements both ways on this forum about whether to flush a high mileage tranny that has never been flushed. I did mine at 92,000. I don't know if it had been done before but the fluid was so dirty I believed it was the first time. No problems 8,000 miles later. I flushed mine myself. It really isn't much harder than changing your oil. Do a search on this topic and you can learn how to do it yourself for about $50, including a filter change.

My tranny isn't more than 10k miles old, and sometimes it "falls" out of gear after some aggressive driving. I checked the fluid and it still has its red appearance, but smells burned. I think the viscosity breaks down when the tranny gets hot. Going to flush mine as well with redline synthetic..I doubt the tranny will go since it is so new..

A flush is more than just changing the fluid. You have to use a "flush kit" to clean out all the varnish and other garbage. I believe Wynn's makes a 2 bottle kit for about $20-25 USD. I operate a fleet of vehicles and have all my flushes done at a local transmission specialist shop. He swears by the Wynn's flush kit. He said he's run this stuff through the most abused, burned up trannys and the insides were copmpletely clean afterwards. Not fixed, but clean anyways...lol!

He only charges me about $25 CDN labor to do the flushes so I don't even bother getting myself dirty to do it myself. I have it done about every 20k miles since my vehicles do nothing but stop and go city driving. 30K is what the average car needs.

You should also install an auxillary tranny cooler downstream from the OEM cooler in the rad. They're cheap and easy to install. There are 2 things that will **** a tranny fast....dirt and heat. The flush takes care of the dirt and the cooler takes care of the heat.
