Hey all,

I bought a black dash from an ATX a while ago and am finally getting around to putting in my MTX.

Since this is a big job just want to be prepared. The ATX dash has a harness in it from when I got it.

Can I reutilize the exisiting ATX harness or will I need to pull it out and integrate my MTX one?

Hoping someone knows!

Thanks All,
Tim

AFAIK, the harnesses should be the same, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have heard (don't quote me on this), that with certain years, you can't just unplug the harness while keeping it in the dash, and some you can. But that is something I am "remembering" from reading in a post on dash swaps like a year or two ago...

I just pulled a dash from a 92 a few weeks ago. The entire harness had to be removed from the dash before it could come out of the car.

Believe me, we looked for that connector. Maybe when we go to put that dash into a 94, that connector will be there.

It'd be nice if it's there on a 93 too, since I'll be swapping the dash in my car as well.

no connector.

the dashes themselves are identical, the harness is not.

the main is about the size of your wrist, and come out of the firewall just behind and to the left of the steering column.

however, the smaller JBL/Premium sound loop harness can be disconnected and left attached to the dash by simply disconnecting the connector located on the passanger side under the carpet.

You do not need to pull the harness out of the dash to remove it or reinstall it! Every thing unplugs somewhere. A lot of the plugs are in the engine bay & the then the whole large dia. wire bunch pulls through a large rubber gromit hole in the fire wall near the brake booster. Then there are the plugs right behind the dash & the ones at the lower 'A' pillers. Only the same years will be exactly the same. We put a 91 blk dash in a 90 that was mocha & had body plugs with no dash plugs to mate with & dash plugs with no body mates either which was the airbag differances.

Oiy.

Guess I won't know till I dig into it.

Luckily both dashes are a '93. So I won't be fighting any year specific changes.
