Gen 3 Konis

After a couple of months using the Gen 3 Konis setup that SHO Source is selling is just the the right thing for the Eibachs lowering springs. They SARCs in hard mode would still bottom out. They are using the GEN 2 Konis in GEN 3 struts which are a bit shorter.

With the Konis in the softest mode they are comparable to the SARCs and will bottom out under harsh conditions. Bump them up a notch and this goes away. They also sit about a 1/2" lower than the SARCs with Eibachs. The only thing lacking is somewhere to mount the ABS wires and the brake hose.

ABS is easily fixed with the GEN 2 clip on wire holders. The price is competitive to new SARCs which fail with the Eibachs.

And I should also add that because the Gen2 Konis are shorter than the OEM SARC strut, the camber was easy to get with the custom setting and near factory strut place position.

Previously I had removed the strut plate and slotted the tower. With the Koni set up the struts are near the original position and still I have the negative settings that I want.

I was under the impression that Gen 2 Koni's were only useable in the Front? They fit all the way around? This is accomplished by using Stock Gen III strut Housings? (Wether SARC or non SARC?).

How Cool, This is the Mod that the Gen III guy's have been waiting for a while.

I only have them in the front. In the rear I have the SARCs. This gives me a bit of a rake which before has given me problems with fuel when below 1/8 of a tank. I have not let the tank get that low yet.

IMHO about any strut would work in the back. With the SARCs I have them jacked up about an inch using the Eibachs in the rear..

The housings are GEN3 NON SARC and have no built in ABS wire holders. The SARC struts also have the attachment points for the SARC ride height sensors; these brackets are where the OEM brake hose attaches. Being as I have custom braided steel front hoses this is a moot point.

Thanks for the good feedback. Based on your recommendations, we are now shipping the fronts with a Gen 1/2 ABS sensor holder. Just a reminder to those running these front struts: since the strut rod is longer, the springs unload when you jack a wheel off the ground. You need to make sure the spring goes back into the perch when you lower the car.

A strut should not change suspension ride height . . . . Something is not right running these Eibachs with the SARC struts. Are the SARC struts gas charged? Did you change to a different upper spring perch (bearing) when changing to the ******'s ( ;-) )

All I know is I measured before and after and the new Konis with new Eibachs sit about a 1/2" lower. This is compared to the SARCs with Eibachs.

I should say too that the Koni/Eibachs could easily be assembled on a bench with just had pressure to compress the spring a bit. Could not do that with the SARC/Eibach.

Paul, that suggests that the spring perch height is different between the two strut housings. I would measure lower spring perch to pinch bolt height for the two housings. Does Gen III SHO use a unique upper spring perch/bearing? zak
