Just how far outside of the wheel weld will a 17x9 Cobra R extend assuming it is the one for the Thunderbird with +36 offset and a .25 spacer. I only need them for the rear of the car. I have 4 17x7.5 Scoundrel. One wheel is beyond repair(nasty gash from brick). So I am considering putting the 7.5's in the front and going with the 9's in the rear. And keep in mind that this is a car that is garage kept for the most part. I basically drive her up the street and back on the weekend. BTW, I know about the TBird 17x7 in silver. I need chrome! Please advise!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

That's exactly what I thought. I can easily see where they would stick out in the front. But on the back it seems as if there is a little more room to play with. It maybe just a little bit outside of the wheel weld.

Neno, Thanks for you reply. For a minute, I thought that no one would even make an attempt to help. I knew I could rely on someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ummm.... you wanna put wider wheels on the back? Why? Thats stupid and pointless and would look awful. It's a front wheel drive. If anything put the wider wheels on the front, at least it would make sense.

TrueSHO

First, Let me address the stupid and pointless part! Who are you or anybody else on this forum to insult someones idea(s). It is in my opinion that whether it's an individual, group and or entity, whatever choices they make are good choices for them and only them, as long as it does not infringe upon the universal rights of others hence forth our constitutional rights ie: FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Whatever pleases your idea(s) of something looking other than awful is all relative unto you. I am certainly not trying to sound like a democrat, right wing, left wing, conservative, independent and or republican in my previous statement. However I do strongly feel that such pontification from an apparent pontificator is indeed not needed nor wanted in this type of format.

Within the automotive community, the SHO contingent is a very rare breed of dedicated enthusiast who were long ago, put aside and wronged(preference GEN 3) by our maker(FORD). Collectively we have come together to expound upon our knowledge and share it with others of like minds and wisdom. This in itself is the reason for our very existence. Who else are we going to get the knowledge from? FORD!! I don't think so!! So verily I say unto you, if you cannot give constructive criticism, then certainly do not choose to give unconstructive criticism. Sometimes it can lead to the dimise of a rare breed and the dismay of newcomers.

And since you decided to travel upon this road, what would you suggest I do considering my circumstances? I trust you completely read and understood my first post in it's entirety(READ IT AGAIN!). BTW, any suggestions that you may have will require the full use of your wallet, bank accts., mutual funds, 401k, equity line and any other assets that you may have to help offset the cost of a totally new set of wheels!

So tell me when was the last time you seen a car traveling down the road with wide tires in the front and skinny ones in the back(FWD or RWD)?

I would apologize for the long post, but TrueSho ticked me off!!!!

I dont see them cruising down the road with wider tires on the front, but it is front wheel drive, and it would just make more sense. I must apoligize for what I said, but there is this kid I used to work with who was a complete idiot and happened to have some fat tires on Cragar SS wheels on the back of his Buick Lesabre (which happened to have flames on the hood and neon green along the bottom panels). Not kidding. He claimed his 3.8 (nonsupercharged) Lesabre had 350 HP. His only mod... Homemade dual exhaust. Soooooooo... that is why when I saw this post I had to express my thoughts of "why and pointless". Thats the only reason. I mean no disrespect to you or any other member of the forum, everyone has been a big help and I'm glad such a forum exists.

The reason the track is narrower in the rear is to aid in controlling skid. Lose traction in the rear and it might get squirrely on you. Stick with same size and offset all around, you will be happier and so will your car.
