Ok, so I searched for the better part of 2 hours, but for the life of me I cannot find the original thread...

So some months ago, there was a debate about Gen 2's ever having an amber turn signal. Most said no, I said yes. I said yes for the simple fact that I've not only seen them on a Gen 2 Taurus, but I've seen them functioning on a Gen 2 Taurus. I was on my way to work in Queens at the time, and I noticed it. Unfortunately, all I could get was a **** stainty camera phone shot...

I cropped and enlarged the image to try to show the taillight better...

...and someone actually accused me of photoshopping that in.

So, for the next few weeks, I dug all over the net for European Taurus taillights, thinking that's the market they must've been made for, but in the end I came up with nada.

Today, someone posts over at TCCA about this Gen 2 japanese export and its body kit. And how the taillights were different...

Told you they existed. :finger: So what if I was wrong about the continent? :bonk:

wow a 1/2 decent looking body kit  I'd like to see it from the front. I dont think I'd do it but it looks way better than those mustangy type kits I've seen posts about in other threds where the side skirts look :nut: and dont line up with the front or rear bumper
like.....

time to order some amber gen2 tails for the US..

Well, I'm not sure if they were "originally" available in another country, or the U.S., but I can tell you for sure that these lights exist. I've seen them on several SLO's. The amber comes on with the brake light IIRC, as i've yet to see one turning. It's different, and certainly not appealing IMHO. An elderly women who lives a couple of blocks away, and drives a white SLO has those tails on her car. I'll see if I can get some shots, but they DO exist.

Funny how I think that's the same exact car I've seen them on as well, driving down Ocean Parkway, in Brooklyn. . . . . small world we live in. . . . :)

Accually I can see them in the last picture, looks like two small rectangles lying long ways next to the parking lights, they're obviously amber. But the first one.. eh, I think that was a busted lense :p

Actually, the amber bulb on the driver's side taillight could've been blown. :p

Well the thing that kinda makes me think it's a busted lense is because it's lit up in the shape of a triangle, a messed up triangle at that :p

I'm telling you all, it was a Gen 2. I have like a first gen camera phone, I'm surprise the pics come out in color.

Regardless, that car was a Gen 2...

I think I was one of the ones that said they don't exist and I'm sticking by that.

The original cellphone pic is just too blurry to tell, but I'd wager that it is a broken lens, maybe even with an amber bulb in it temporarily. When I bought my current car, it had 2 amber bulbs in the passengers taillight, and it still lit up red, just not as red as the drivers side.

That Japanese Taurus pic looks a lot like the ones that were posted from the German Taurus club site. All of those cars had the normal all red lights, but either had the lenses cut out and amber ones added it, or just an amber lens on top of the red one. As far as that blue one posted, above, it looks like just an amber strip on top of the red lens.

Until someone can get a good rear end shot of amber lenses, I still say they don't exist, from the factory or aftermarket. Homemade is the only way to get them.

PS. I agree that blue taurus looks pretty good with that kit. This black wagon could definitely convince me to make a SHO wagon.

I'll see what I can do. The car was parked on the side, as of 8pm this evening, as I was on my way home from work. Hopefully I can get a shot before sun-down tomorrow so I can get a clear pic.

I've seen those tails too. I saw a SLO a very long time ago with them. I remember them vividly because I turned and told my friend how annoying they were cause the amber lights were on all the time. It's like how some of those european cars and Maximas have the tails that light up their ambers whenever the tails are on.

That body kit is actually the best one I've seen. Only one comes close is the Stlllen kit. Too bad they only make kits for SLOs. I wonder if I can get a penpal in Japan to look for a SHO kit?

The first pic definately looks like a busted tail light to me.

And is the kit on the blue slo the same as this one?

Anyone have a clue as to what kind of wheels those are?

They look very similar to the rims on the 3.2 TL. . . .

Frantzdy, where at? I have something to do in Manhattan; if I can drag my ass out of bed early enough I may swing by and see if I can't get a shot with my camera.

It's on Neptune Ave, in Coney Island, Brooklyn, but no need. . . .
I caught him at a light. The picture isn't clear, but if you zoom in, you can see the amber lights. I have no problem sending the pic. I'll try and snap a high quality shot tomorrow. . . .

As I was walking towards the car, I decided not to stop, and take a pic because it wouldn't of been pretty had the owner came out, and caught me taking pictures of his car.
