gen 2 low power

This is most likely a stupid question but I will ask it anyway. I have a 94 MTX with 133k. The only mod it has is a Sho Shop Y pipe. It starts, idles and for the most part runs ok. However, a well tuned Pinto automatic can beat me off the line. Once I get it up in the higher revs it seems to pull OK. No engine symtoms like rough idle or missing, no flat spots. I am going to pull the codes next to see if anything shows up but no check engine light as of yet. I have had the car 10k miles and put in the y pipe and a clutch. It's a great car, just slow. I had a '90 and it was way quicker and it had 175k on it. Any ideas?

maybe thats why i think i lost to a contour today? Very scary..

Pull those codes.

Does it run better in the upper RPMs? If so, your secondaries may just be stuck open

Thanks guys, I was unaware I could slip a tooth and still run but it is a possibility for sure. I am taking on the major service next ( I have no documentation if or when a service was performed last!) Also the intake butterflies stuck open had crossed my mind too for the same reason, lack of service. Damm, these motors are tough!
