not sure But I think the supply voltage for the radio in the Gen 1 is lower and does not meet the requirements of the Gen 2 setup.

I could be wrong but I think I remember this from a search I did on this exact same subject. but it didn't matter because my amp connection on my Gen 1 was messed up and it does not work any longer.

even a cheap aftermarket headunit would be better, giving you more options and better sound.

ok, thanks guys. The car already has a CHEAP cd player in it and it is using the factory amps, but was trying to go for the factory look since the stock cd player is there also. O well. Thanks again

Yes, a Gen 2 radio will work in a Gen 1 with only minor modifications. You will either have to add a switch for the amp turn on on the JBL amp (the 2nd gen radios only put out 5 volt rather than the 12 volts form the 1st gen unit) or replace the black JBL amp with a 2nd gen unit.

Im not sure if my brother is worried about it anymore. I will see what he wants to do tomorrow. I think he is going to put his pioneer dvd nav in the 91 instead though.
