Thanks all. Second qustion. Has anyone removed the needles before and if so how can this be done. Thanks again.

yes the speedo does come off the cluster, first you have to go under the hood and disconnect the speedo from the tranny, it is a light grey cable about 1/4 inch thick, just follow that down to the tranny and take the clip off and pull the cable out, then unbolt the cluster with a 7mm driver and rotate it out, unplug the electrical connectors (2), and **** the tab on the white clip that holds the speedo into the cluster and pull, when reinstalling, remeber to plug your electrical cables and do not kink the speedo cable...ive never tooken the complete cluster apart so i donot know about the needles.....

As for the instrument cluster you need to first remove the metal panel underneith the steering wheel. It has 4 star screws. there will be 2 screws that hold down the panel with the vents and clock beneith that metal panel. Theres also 2 star screws in front of the tach and speedo that need to come out. Also the you need to pull off the **** to the head light control. You will need a large socket to remove the nut. After that its just pulling and shifting. Though dont yank off the console you will have to unplug all of the wires. The rest is obvious as you will see all of the screws.

Thanks for your help all. Got it all out now and installed the new gauge faces now just do minor stuff to finish up. I am so glad I wasted money on that book when so much more info is available here.

The needles come off by just pulling. I got two flat head screw drivers and just poped them up. Warning though. Make sure you mark where they are or when you put them back it will not be calibrated. This is a real pain to try and redo the speedo.

Yep, I originally put all my needles back on and realized that the temp guage dove down upon startup, and the speedo wasn't resting on the needle pin. I had to take it all apart and redo. Make sure before you put your water temp guage needle back on you turn the key one click to "power up" the car. THEN put your temp needle on "C" and reinstall. This is done best after the car has sit all night. Good luck. As far as the speedo needle, there is a mark on aftermarket guages below the zero. Make sure your stop pin is out, and reinstall the needle pointing at that. Then lift the needle and reinstall the needle stop pin. Then let the needle rest on the pin. Oh another tip. When you take the needles off, scrape off the white paint off the back using a razor blade, and take some neon orange model paint and pain JUST THE BACKS of the needles. They show up WAY better against the white face guages or whatever color you chose. Good luck...
