Hey,

I just replaced my starter about 4 months ago and the new one is going out already. Is there a better starter out there available for Gen 2 3.2L? Should I try to get a Motorcraft or what?

Find a shop that specializes in starters and alternators, and have them rebuild your old one. Buying new or "rebuilt" units is a crapshoot. Some are good, some aren't.

It is luck of the draw with cheap overseas rebuilds.

I am on my 8th 'Duralast' starter from Autozone in my SHO....

I put a new one in of my friend's SHO's...it has been for for 4+ years.

It isn't the car...it is the crappy rebuild.

So what if I ordered a Motorcraft from a Ford dealer?

You would probably have a good rebuilt motorcraft starter.

However, they have a 12 month, 12k mile warranty.

Although crappy quality the chain stores have a lifetime warranty.

I hear that Napa has the best quality rebuilds.

I had exactly the same issues. The starters from NAPA would last about two years and I'd need to get another one. They had the rear support and were rebuilt here in the US, I think.

Finally the guy at NAPA suggested I get one re-manufactured by a company in Germany with a life time warranty. I saved the warranty and that was eight years ago.

It cost about twice as much and also had the rear support.

Excellent starter. I did replace all of the cables and moved the battery to the trunk. Still works great.

So what is this company in Germany?

Sorry, I'm about 1000 miles away from the invoice and won't be back for over a week. I'm pretty sure I still have it though.

Ask at NAPA. I remember paying about $95.00 eight years ago on a commercial account that I have there. It was about $130.00 retail at the time. It was rebuilt and manufactured in Germany and I'm pretty sure it was a German name. It was also good for the life of the car.

One more question...I also have a bad seal/gasket for my oil pan and it is leaking a fair amount of oil. I'm getting this fixed this weekend, but could oil be causing the starters to fail?
