It's rather cold here right now in Illinois, and my car is getting around 22mpg on the hwy, @ 75-80 mph, some due to the cold. What kind of mileage numbers do you guys get? www.fueleconomy.gov says that SHO's get 18-26mpg, but I don't see anything above 23mpg. Oh yeah, my car is stock with 155k.
Just curious

my 89 got around 25MPG on the highway...filled it up and drove over 200 miles on the HW and still registered full. The rest of the miles were in town, so that hurt it. Best in-town for my 90 is right around 20.

I bet if u didnt drive 75-80 u would get 25-30 mpg... wink

On a serious note...I got 31 mpg once in my 91+ driving accross the U.S. going 65-80 mph. Thats the best mpg I have ever gotten with any of my 3 SHO's

My '94 ATX with over 90K, no top-end 60K service and original plugs and wires generally gets 21-23 MPG combined city & highway. On my recent ~1500mi trip from Boston to Miami, it averaged 26.7 MPG, with at least two tanks getting over 29 MPG. I'm putting on new plugs & wires this weekend before heading to the west coast in April/May. I expect a slight increase in MPG, but I can't imagine much better for a 9+ year-old car! Then when I get to CA, I'll be doing the full top-end 60K.

On a trip from Denver to Phoenix which is approx. 1000 miles, I averaged 30 mpg. I did that at speeds of 80-100mph thumbs_u , mostly around 80mph.

EDIT: I also must add that I did the 60k with in the last 5k miles.

Ive noticed a huge difference in my gas mileage since I got my new job. I only commute about 2 miles to work... and like the previous post, it never gets warm.

Normal freeway driving my '89 between 60 and 85 mph averages 28-32mpg

Around town driving combined with short freeway trips (redline time) about 17mpg (ouch)

Combination of city and hwy driving is about 22mpg

Ok- for what it's worth. I just did a brake job on the front, pads and turned my rotors. My last trip to work, 150 miles, was 25mpg and I was driving between 80-90 mph. I'm guessing my calipers were either sticking on the warped rotors and/or causing som kind of unwanted friction.
Things seem to be much better on gas now and it drives alot nicer.

i think the only real way to calculate it is when you fill up set your trip meter to zero. drive, fill up, see how many gallons it needed and how many miles you drove and do the math. thats the most accurate way. (assuming you fill your tank to the top each time)

I got 26-30 on my trip to CA. but of course most of that was 65-70 mph driving. One time it went like 110 somewhere in Nevada with no cops around hehe. I need top end 60K. that would probably make the car go above 135 hehe. Speaking of which, you race car guys, when do you shift from 4-5 when trying to top it out? also, does it go from 110- 140 fast, or does it inch its way up there slowly?

Keep in mind that the EPA gas mileage estimates are the MINIMUMS that the vehicles must attain to meet government regulations. A well maintained car will MEET & preferably EXCEED these minimum requirements. My SHO with 125k has gotten near 28-30 MPG consistently from highway driving- and keep in mind that 5-speeds historically have higher gas mileage numbers than automatics.

I've been averaging about 16.07mpg combined city/highway, mostly city,
during this winter. When it gets warmer, it should go up to 20mpg combined.
Unfortunately, I've never had higher than 23mpg.

I agree with the cold making mileage suck. I got 25 the other day when it was nicer out, but now it got cold again and I got 20mpg. I've only seen the 25mpg mark once, but it seems that everyone else get more than that, and even closer to 30mpg. I guess I need to drive a little slower on the highway to see that. 75-80 may be a little out of the range it likes.

I have never had very good mileage, I think 16-17 all the time. I have a question. How big is the gas tank in a 91 +, the book says 18.2 eek! I think, but that doesn't seem right at all. for "detonator", I have been to 130 MPH, had I know 144 was top speed I woulda kept going. It doesn't really go that slow, but its not quick like 1st or 2nd.

Speedy 91 SHO,

MMM, lets see, you love pulling up next to fast cars and toasting em. Gee, I can't imagine why you only get 16 - 17 miles per gallon! You think maybe the two are related?

If you want fuel economy, I understand the Escorts get great gas milage, and they are cute!rangerj
