What would cause a 1993 SHO MTX to have really crappy gas mileage? I mean I don't drive like a maniac (except to beat the crap out of ricers  ). Could it be maybe because the 60K hasn't been preformed? Any answers would be great. Thanks guys. :thumb:

That could be a huge reason. Changing out plugs/wires, and sensors will make a difference. What are you getting? And is it mainly city driving?

Yeah, i'm getting about 12-13 mpg city, I cannot afford that kinda gas, even when I start it up and let it idle for a while you can see the impact.

Even though its not cheap, do a 60k on the car. Like I said, putting new plugs, wires, sensors (O2, thermostat, TPS, CPS, and possibly CID) will improve it tremendously. While you're at it, do the gaskets and the belts. How long ago was it done? And don't forget that we're still on the winter crappy gas

Oh god I have no idea even if its ever been done. The old owners didn't really take care of this car. How much would a 60K cost?

Ditto to everything already said. You should be getting 20+ MPG in town and 25+ on the highway. In my 1990, I get almost 24 around town and close to 30 on the road.

Doing the maintenance should fix the problem. Just do a search on 60,000 maintenance and you will get tons of information.

The cost will depend on how much work you can do yourself. Again, there will be tons of information. Just do the search and then decide what to do.

It could also be your thermostat- does you car run cold? Is it allways near the bottom of the temp gauge? You will get lower mileage this way because the engine doesn't reach operating temperature.

No it's noraml, it also idles really rough. I'm thinking about a rebuild, replace everything while she's open. What do you guys think? An while i'm at it so I don't start another thread, i'm getting a knock in my engine compartment, and i can hear it inside the car as well. Don't know if it's a rod knock (God I hope not) or maybe something is hitting in there, like a belt or something.
