Today I went out and noticed how worn my front tires were. About 9,000 ago I replaced worn front Yokohama 350's with Yokohama 420's (stupposed to be almost direct replacement). Backs are still Yokohama 360's, and they look fair. Yokohama 420's in the front are looking real tired, and I have no idea why. Really kinda ticked off, tires should last longer than 7,000. I don't burn out intentionally (I might get some wheelspin in the rain, etc.). I've drag raced it at the track once and did 4 runs, each run I didn't "Heat up the slicks" or anything, I just gave them a small spin to get any crap off them.

What should I have them naired to, BTW? They're 1990 stock tire-size on 1990 stock rim.

But I've digressed, seeing as I'll be looking at new tires soon, anybody have reccomendations that'll give me a good balance between performance and longevity?

Maybe something is causing your alignment to be off and wearing your tires. How about tire pressure? Any rubbing? Just throwing out some thoughts.

What is the treadwear (number found on tire) on the new tires? They could be much softer tires. Otherwise, I would say alignment if you are not applying the power.

EDIT: Where are they wearing. If the center of the tread is wearing it could be over-inflation, if the edges(outer and inner on each tire) are wearing, that could be under-inflation.

Generally, the stickier the tire, the easier it wears.

Some tires wear more rapidly depending on the compound and how well they grip the road. It also could be your tires out of balance or alignment. Under inflation and over inflation may be the cause also.

OH you didn't know
Hard acceleration(not spinning the tires) will also wear tires prematurely as well as "hard" cornering, misalignment, incorrect air pressure. If tires are more worn in center-Too much air or hard acceleration. Tires worn on either edges-misalingment.
