I am having trouble with the car going through spats where the tach shuts off and runs great then the tach comes back on and the car buckles. I am going to change the spark plugs and wires tonight(expensive parts!!) what do you set the gap of the spark plugs to?

This is likely the crank position sensor, not the plugs or wires.

Plug gap is .044" normally; performance people say try over-gapping up as high as .060" for naturally aspirated SHOs & use only the Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs; .035" for supercharged SHOs, using the copper AGSP32C plugs.

Good luck!

What kind of job is the crank sensor to replace? Do you have any idea of cost on this sensor? I guess 4 times what a regular car costs!

The sensor itself is around $50,but to have a mechanic change it for you, expect $600-1200.If you have some mechanical know how,it`s easily a LONG afternoon job.

I live close to Toronto. This car was supposed to be a cheap winter beater but has changed almost on a weekly basis. Something new every week. I can't complain too much I paid $1000 CND for it(only 140 kms 85 miles on it)so what can I expect. But it would be real nice to get through the New Year without replaceing something.

I would either email Josh Teixeira or Mark Nunnally about this if you're looking for someone to help you out hands-on with this. They're more in your neck of the woods, I think (been a while since Geography class, so I could be wrong...).

Now, Ontario is part of the Great White North, right?

Welcome to the Great White North, eh. Eh, this here is eh, we call this the Great White North, eh. NBC shows that late at night, I've fallen asleep to that skit a few times. Long live the classics!
