A good interior shampoo scrub job can't hurt.

Depends on what the smell is, where it is coming from, is it aggitated by something etc etc. I once helped a neighbor restore a 70's vette (not knowledge, just grunt work) the previous owner had died in it (accident, hit by drunk driver) and the smell was horrible and even stripped down to the frame and body only, yes even wiring harness out, it still had an odd pungent odor. The new interior helped overcome that, especially the carpet. So it really depends on the source, for example if your heater core is leaking that is a totally different proposition than say an old forgotten carton of milk under the passenger seat or different again the odor is due to exhaust leak and on and on.
Try to determine what the smell is and where it is coming from. Hopefully it's just something you can clean instead of having to fix or replace. There are lots of chemical cleaners out there, you might want to check with your local auto detail shop and ask them what they use and perhaps buy product from them. Sorry couldnt be more specific but your problem is too vague.

reminds of the time i drove to south dakota just to find out the guyu had no idea mice shit and ****** all over the car. I removed all carpet, vents etc. sprayed bleach all over the car and re-assembled with different seast and carpet. About three months later when the temps jumped up in the 90's the smell came back like it was STUCK in the metal. I ended up getting a short that i couldnt fix so I parted it out. Vinegar is supposed to get out cat ****, skunk etc..

Baking soda should absorb the odors.
Put it in a shallow pan and set it on the rear seat or carpet.
But it may take several tries.
