full suspention kit

I am installing a suspention kit from midwest sho right now. I am having some problems getting the front spindle to go down far enough to get the old strut out or to reinstall. I tried a long prybar but it doesn't give me near enough clearance. Do I have to remove the axle from spindle?

Yes, you have to remove the axle from the hub. You will ned a 30mm socket, it can be borrowed from AutoZone. You have to separate the ball joint and spindle too. AZ also loans spring compressors.

For some reason I don't remember removing the axle. I just hammered on the knuckle to break it free from the strut and bent it down far enough to take it out. At least that's what I remember.

I got insructions off shotimes and it didn't say to remove the axle or spindle. It said to just remove the brake line bracket and stabilizer link from strut and to wiggle it down and off after taking off pinch bolt.

Yeah I think you can just bang that sucker off. But I do remember taking out the axle for something, I'm not sure if it was the struts though, I don't think it was.

Break the strut loose from the knuckle and see if you can get it far enough down with the axle on, if you can't than just take it off.

when I put in my Intrax springs we didn't take off the brake lines or axles.. we did take off the caliper.

No you don't have to, but it is easier if you do. I just did my front spr./str. this week and once the lower control arm is out of the spindle you can lever it down and easily(?!?)pull the strut out. Most important is not to pull out on the halfshaft or the cv joint could come apart. I found it easier to move the spindle to the left of the LCA, it gave more clearance. Also try and support the spindle on a cinder block or something while you lever the LCA from the bottom, makes the fight a little easier. Good luck!

It is easier if you do but it is not required to remove the axle nut. I never do. I put my hydraulic jaws between the frame and the strut rod and push the whole assembly down. Workes for me.
