We need a new and updated thread.

While many use the Walbro 255lph pump, once you start pushing the envelope it simply is not enough pump to do the job.

So, let's discuss options. I am considering an in-line pump fed by my in-tank 255, but I am also considering a 340lph in-tank.

What other options has the board considered?

Anyone using something other than the vanilla 255 in-tank option for their high-hp SHO?

Jason was running a 320lph pump hardwired to the battery with a relay, along with his ID1000's when he went to E85. IIRC, that was more then enough fueling for that car.

Injectors will be an issue far before the fuel pump.

This. If you find yourself needing a 255lph pump, you will also find yourself needing an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator (since the stock one cannot handle more than about 155 for long) and bigger fuel injectors. It's not a stand-alone mod.

I assume you are asking about your SHOgun.

At 20psi, a stock voltage 255lph pump is probably only capable of providing 225lph. Liter of fuel weighs approx 1.5lbs. So theoretically, that pump at full voltage can provide 337.5lbs/hr.

6 48lb/hr injectors can theoretically flow (100%DC) 288lbs/hr.

IOW, a 255lph pump is a good match for 48lb injectors, that is to say you will always be able to provide more fuel than the injector can use.

My turbo car has 63lb injectors. Even at 85%DC, I will be near the limit of a 255lph pump. I have decided on the Aeromotive 340lph in tank pump. I'll post a small write up after the install.

In many cases, it's the pump that needs to be bigger and not the injectors. With my STi, I was near 100% IDC with a DW320 lph pump and ID1000's at a base pressure of 50 PSI and 24 PSI of boost. I changed out to a Walbro 400lph E85 pump and my IDC's are now around 80%

I got lost at the "since it is an inline pump, it will cost much more to add" part - why do you say that?

Per my previous post, the Walbro 400's are better than the 044. There are also larger Walbro in-tank pumps available.

The fact that it's an inline pump, requires you to build a lower sump and lines for it. The drop in pumps just go into your factory sump.

The 044 is a univeral, and I believe it has AN threaded input/output.

You don't *have* to build a surge tank for an in-line pump. Pat's old race car did not have a surge tank. It was just plumbed in the feed line (I'm not even sure if it had a bigger feed line as he installed Josh's standard FPR after he got it). A surge tank is good for good for preventing fuel starvation, but is not absolutely needed.

I paid $175 on eBay (fuelpumpusa) for the Walbro 400 E85 with an install kit assortment.
