Do you need to remove the back part of the seat or can you do it with just removing the bottom?....Also, how much space is between the floorboard and the tank?

If I was to attempt it I'd remove the back seat as well since I'd rather not get hot metal bits embedded in the leather, and considering it takes all of five minutes to remove if you don't know how to do it; I'd say it's cheap prevention.
