When removing the front strut to change the mount or bearing, does the spring have to be compressed in order to change the bearing or mount?

Thanks, I have really got to change the mount or bearing on my driver's side strut because the squeaking is driving me crazy, only squeaks when I turn to the left though, but it sounds horrendous.

It's been a while since I pulled a front strut apart, but IIRC the bearings are separate from the mounts - the bearings can be replaced without spring compressors but the mounts can't.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The bearing is separate from the mount, but you still need to compress the spring to remove the bearing.

struts very rarely squeek. take a closer look at the outer tie rods to see if they are the source of your noise. they get rusted up since they cannot be greased.
