I feel like I looked at this, but I dont remember. I really doubt it though, the gen 3 caliper is clocked in a slightly different location.

Why bother?? Leave 'em off!

I have a whole "collection" of Gen 1-2-3 backing plates in my garage that need to hit the trash. They are the first things to come off when I do the 1st brake job on a car.

Besides holding in heat when the brakes get hot, they serve very little, if any, purpose.

+1, they don't do much. IMHO they're there mostly to frustrate you and damage your fingers and knuckles when you work on the brakes.

I've never seen any significant downside to taking them off.

Backing plates are usefull mostly up here, in the winter. The rotor stay cleaner and takes a little extra time to rust.

Huh??

Then why is there no plate on the front??

From what we can see, the purpose is to keep the heat off the suspension components behind them, but I and others have never had a problem under track conditions.

If anything, they hold the winter crud IN there.

The rotors get surface rust after a day of sitting anyway. Comes off on the first stop.

I always thought they were there to keep cool water from contacting a hot rotor and warping it. Either way, I don't use mine.

Yup. No point in having them. My GEN 3 knuckle backing plates came off on the first day of the subframe swap.
