Hey everybody in SHOland,
I got a letter in the mail from my dealership today about my front coil springs. The letter reads as follows, "At Ford Motor Company is providing extended warranty coverage for the front coil springs under Customer Satisfaction Program 04M04 to owners of certain 1999 through 2001 model year Taurus and Sable vehicles." It goes on to say under a "What will Ford and your dealer do?" topic it says, "If either the front coil springs on your vehicle fracture, Ford Motor Company and your dealer will replace both front springs at no charge to you under the terms of this program." It says how to go about setting up an appointment to get yours chacked and/or repaired. My question is this, has anybody received such a letter from their dealerships? Please let me know how common is to get this letter and if it is worth doing if your coils haven't fractured yet. Thanks in advance.

Go get it done. A broken spring during highway cruising might just ruin your day.

I'd be careful about that. You might end up with SLO springs on the car if you take it in. I heard about this recall before. I'm not sure why it would apply to a SHO.

If you do take it in, I would suggest ordering strut mounts and bearings from fordparts.com and get them to put those on the new springs. Or go one step further and have them replace the struts too. That's something that will have to be done sometime in the future. Doing it now will save on the labour.

Most SHO springs are SLO springs - Codes match based on weight, not performance. The struts and larger sway bars make the peformance difference.
Look at a door plaque for spring codes and compare to yours.
