My name is steve and i am getting ready to buy my first SHO Taurus and it is a 97 V-8 and i'm coming over to this site for what i need to look out for. The said taurus has 128,000 on the clock and i have read about the cams and need to know what else to look for, any help would save me afew grand that i will have to pay out for the car. As i normally Drive lifted ford Rangers and 5.0 Explorers and Crown vic police models, but i need a smaller rig for the Grand kids. If you can post the links from this site to the known problems it will save me alot of searching right now as i leave in the morning to drive to Il. to pick up the SHO. Thany you in advance Steve

The big thing with the V8's is checking that the cams are welded. If they arent the will slip and Valves meet piston which is never good!
As far as the rest of the car check for the good old ford rust in the fenders and back door dog legs. But just do the good old car check over and ask for repair/service records if possible. Be sure to drive the thing and give it a good romp and make sure shes running well.

Springield, mo and i don't think the cams have been welded, oh and it will get a good test run before i drop 2 grand for it. From what pics i have seen it's looks to be in great shape no signs of rust on any panels and the inside leather seats are clean and tear free, the tires have about 1000 miles on them. It's black, moon roof, factory spoiler, full sho trim package said to have a small leak in the rad. but never overheated
