Cut the blk/pnk wire at the chime box module located adjacent to the steering column. I agree that this noise is very annoying especially when cleaning the interior while playing the stereo.

yeah its even worse when it NEVER stops even when the key is out of the ignition, the only time its not on is when the car is indeed running

That is the first thing I always did when I got a new SHO. You don't have to cut anything. Just unplugged the harness from the black box. There is a lot of wires going into it and I have no idea what all of them are for but it didn't change anything else and I have had that disconnected in all the SHOs I've owned. Where is it? It is right above the gas pedal towards the dash. You should be able to reach right under sitting in the drivers seat and feel it and hear it dinging. Take a screw driver and pop the wiring harness off.

Will

EDIT: I never tried cutting the black/pink wire. I guess if that works, that would be fine. Anybody know what all the rest of the wires go to??

On my 89, there is a single black wire with a connector on the underside of the steering column. It's now disconnected.

Cut off that Ding-****

I also pulled out the chime module two days after getting my car. Just open up the cover under the steering column and listen for the ding. The chime module is black and about 2"x2"x1" and has a plug with about six wires going into it. It was stuffed up under the right side of the steering column on mine, but is now in my basement. God knows why you need a dinger when the lights turn on and off automatically, especially if you lock your doors with an alarm remote.

PS, one of the wires that goes to the chime is the 'key is inserted' wire that tells the chime the key is in the ignition (which seems to be malfunctioning in the original poster's car). This is good to hook into an auto-locking alarm system so it won't lock the doors if the key is still in the ignition!

The 'wiring diagram' sticky message will have the chime module wiring and the wires that go into it for your year car.

I found that by discarding the box altogether effectively rendered my car with fewer features such as...

1.No more Seatbelt light (good/bad your call)
2.When I lift up on the handles the interior lamps do not illuminate for 30 seconds.
