hey all
I just had my local shop install a shonut clutch package for me it was at a good price too $294

my question is now that teh clutch is installed teh pedal seems a lot softer to press down is this normal with a fresh clutch, also is there a break in period and guidlines I should follow. I have been trying to take it easy but it smells while i drive and after, only maybe 20 miles on the new clutch.
also it doesn;t seem to grip that well right off the bat, like i can't spin the tires in first it feel like the clutch spins at high RPM's is this normal for a while till i break it in.

I am sure i am not used to this as the clutch they took out of my SHO didn't even show any of the cuts anymore so i was used to driving a farely old clutch.

thanks

First of all, lift up on the clutch pedal and see if you hear it click. If it did, there was some slack in the cable. You clutch could be slipping if your installer wasn't clean when he did the work. If he got any type of grease or residue on the flywheel or disc lining, this would cause the clutch to slip. Driving on it may eventually burn off the residue though. As far as the effort to push down on the clutch, it is usually a lot easier than the previous clutch was to push down. This is due to the fact that the TOB was gunked up and didn't slide well on the shaft, and hence the more effort needed to push down the clutch. Within 500 to 1000 miles break in of my new clutch, everything seemed to work very well.

Yes, there's a procedure. Go red line each and every gear and it will be broken in just fine if you ask me. thumbs_u J/K :p

Oh yea, another tip. When at a stop light or 15 mph, put the shiter in 5th gear and rev the motor to 7k rpms and let off the clutch as quick as you can and that'll wear it in. :D

Alright. That was about the most stupid and worthless post ever.

See above for the easiest way to ruin your clutch. It isn't even funny as a joke.

On a new clutch, around town, 500-1000 miles or very easy driving and shifting should be done. The clutch needs to bed in and get the peaks and ridges of the finish worn down so it has a better engagement area. Just drive it nicely, no fast shifting or hard slipping of the clutch. After 500 miles or so you can start to be a little more aggressive with it. The clutch will grab harder as time goes on, and should peak around 5000 miles. It should stay very close to this peak for most of its life, the length of which is determined by how you drive it.

When i first tried out my new shonut clutch it seems totally light, its the way its suppost to be.

But it will get some getting used too.

I was told by RI-SHO to go a couple of hundred miles for brake in,i would do that if i were you, just to be safe.
