There was a SHO for sale at Carlisle that had a 5x114.3 hub on it. It had some Escape wheels on it I think. I asked him how he did it and all he said was "My stepbrother did it". I told him if he didnt sell the car at Carlisle (I assume he didnt) to post it on SHOforum. It was a VERY Clean 94 ATX for about 2 grand, Hopefully he post's it up soon.

Yea I talked to this guy too. He gave me the same answer, so I kept prodding...
"Well, so how'd he do it?"
"Well he just swapped the other hubs on there"
"that's it, just swapped hubs?"
"Yea"

Sounds to good to be true.

Anyway, I must say the escape wheels looked good on the gen 2. I took a few pictures too

I also mentioned SHOForum to all three of the guys sellin SHOs. That red '90 was in GREAT shape, plus the Mille Mags, which he was clueless on so I filled him in. The original wheels were in the trunk, the owner popped it and show'd'm, black basketweaves with silver lip - they were in good shape too. Unfortunately, he was asking way to much for the car.

You're saying the spline is the same? The outer CV of a Taurus slides right into a Freestar hub? Can you look at the back side of the hub and see if the hub shaft/inner bearing are the same diameter as a Taurus? And of course the width. Measuring the overall width of the Freestar hub, from the back of the shaft to the outer face. It may be possible to press the Freestar hub into a Taurus bearing.

Thanks in advance

Perry

Sorry about the delay guys! I had no idea that this thread had even moved!

What it looks like on the Freestar hub and Taurus hub, is the inner part of the bearing is different. They don't appear to be the same diameter. I don't think that it will work just by swapping the hub out. It looks too different to work properly. It could very well work, but I don't know.

I tried to press out the bearing and it started to actually flex the entire housing so I stopped.

I really should have taken pics as I was mounting up the hub. I'm sorry!

I want to know how that guy at carlisle did that to his gen 2! I hate when people are ******** and won't share information. Reminds me of Honda people. :D

Anyway, I hope I answered all your questions.. All I know is the hub/bearing does not match up, or fit in the Taurus rotor properly. You could try a freestar rotor with the caliper bracket.

Those are actually Freestar wheels on that SHO.

Thats what I was going to say. They do look similar to a certain style of Escape wheels.

If I did end up figuring out how to do all this, I would have gone with either of these wheels-

This one for the police look/winter wheels:
3665 1

Or this one for stock winter wheels. ****, my centercap off my wheels will fit these:

so did anyone who saw that blue car in person notice what kind of brakes were on it?

if its true you just put the part the wheel studs mount to from the freestar, then you could use the standard taurus caliper setups(I'm not certain a freestar knuckle shares a similar caliper bracket), no more drilling rotors for our bolt pattern for different rotors off other cars originally........ that is if the outside face of the rotor hat rides in the same exact spot

why would someone put escape or such wheels on a SHO when you have options like that in a 5x114.3.... coulda had something really unique looking for a SHO, instead its just some bland OEM wheels... it looks all stock almost, not like a set of nice cobra wheels or anything......

The owner of the blue car said he some Bullet wheels on the car as well as a few other wheels. The current setup was on there just for the sale of the car.

I hope someone finds out exactly how this was done so we all can start on this, because I can't think of any way else to do this.

Could've just had wheel adapters for all we know, I mean it was the guy's brother and not the guy himself that said he swapped the hubs.

It looks like he may have swapped the whole knuckle, hubs, calipers, and rotors over on the front. The rear I have no idea.

The freestar uses a ball joint on the arm, like the gen 1-2, it also uses what look to be the same diameter struts, and the same connector plugs for the ABS sensors.

This is more interesting than just the ability to run a 5x4.5" bolt pattern wheel however...
The Freestar uses 11.5" rotors up front, and aluminum dual piston calipers with 2" bores.

That's my guess as well. He probably used the entire spindle w/ hub and brakes attached.

Those Freestyle wheels are uggggly.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here and when I ran across it, my interest was piqued. I think I'll do a little R&D myself. A coworker has an '07 Edge with a set of wheels that I'd like to have on my car. Below is what it would look like.

I'd like to add that the rotor dimensions in the first post are incorrect - what he has shown is actually a Lincoln LS front rotor. I looked at these for doing Cobra Calipers over 11.5/11.6 brakes. The LS rotor is about the same thickness as the 13" Cobra rotor, which should help with pedal feel.

It looks as though the height of the hat is different. LS calipers are dual piston aluminum, but cannot be used due to different caliper bracket bolt spacing.

This is the correct image for the 11.6" Gen 3 rotor

Wow, I didn't think people were still interested in this. I was unaware that I put up a LS rotor, I'm pretty sure I was looking at a Taurus when I found the picture.

Has anyone come up with anything on this? I never got past pressing out the hub from the Freestar bearing.

For the front, it seems like redrilling would be easiest. Rears, an adapter probably.

I actually came back to this thread for those images, to see where they were from (rockauto) to be able to compare the LS rotor dimensions to the SHO rotor.

So I was at the yard the other day and I seen an '02 windstar that had dual piston calipers with the same size rotor as my 3rd gen rotor. The knuckle assembly is visually identical to a gen II setup. The next time I'm at the yard I plan on taking measurements and pictures. It would be interesting to see if this can be done. Dual piston calipers are just...:naughty:
