Found a beautiful white SHO, but I am afraid that it was tuned

2015 with 27k miles, has a livernois airbox and a 3 bar map sensor. Not sure if it is still in tune or not, felt stockish to me but I am not real familiar with SHO's. Should I run away? I'll need this car to last a while.

If it still has the 3bar on it it's tuned or it will run like crap. Are you looking at the right MAP? There is one before the throttle that should be a 3 bar and one on top of the intake under the cover that should be a 2bar stock.

If it's tuned is the tuner is the handheld tuner included? It's much more involved if you want to go back to stock if you don't have the device with the stock file loaded.

Are there service records? I wouldn't automatically run away from a tuned car, IF it was a reputable tuner AND there are plenty of service records showing the owner took care of it.

Ok, I looked at the map sensor on the left, not under the cover. I didn’t realize there were 2.

No tuner included. It’s at a local dealer who just bought it at auction. Doesn’t know much about tuning.

Some dealer maintenance records on the carfax.

Lack of a device, but inclusion of the 3-bar, would indicate it's still tuned.

No device though can be somewhat problematic. Especially since that would be indicative of which tuner's tune is still on it.

The presence of an LMS branded CAI is not proof enough of which tuner's tune is in use.

Could be dicey only in the aspect since the lack of a device, as well as the presence of the 3bar MapV Sensor, would equate with no availability to re-download the stock tune file.

Plenty of reputable tuners out there. The most common being Livernois Motorsports based out of Michigan, and Unleashed Tuning based out of Florida.

The fact the car is (still) tuned is not really the issue here, as this platform has proven itself over and over to take incredibly well to a tune alone, and still provide plenty of dependability, as well as long term durability. But no access to the stock tune file is of concern.

I suppose if you're really bent on acquiring this particular SHO, you could, as a pre-purchase investigation, get the VIN, and maybe contact either, or both of the above mentioned tuners, and see if either can verify they have said VIN in their database(s) as having been provided with a tune file.

Armed with that info, you can purchase the appropriate tuning device and then go from there (LMS uses their own proprietary device and Unleashed uses SCT). Both tuners do have stock tune files as far as I am aware of, but getting the right device, and being able to transition between tune file(s) would be beneficial to your ownership.

Good luck.

Thanks, turns out I wasn't looking at the correct map sensor, so it may just have the Livernois intake only which honestly would make me feel better.

I'm going to go back in the morning and determine if the MAP sensor under the cover is changed. I also left a message with Cody at LMS with the VIN to see if they had anything on file.

I actually like the black wheels on the white car. The stock wheels choices don't do much for me.

If you got the VIN, what is the history of the SHO per Carfax? Has been in ColOH all its' life? Auctions carry cars pretty far & wide.

If you want and can afford it, buy it. Life is too short not to have fun when you can, and these cars are definitely fun to drive. Smartest car I've ever owned and probably the fastest too. And I've owned some fast cars and still do lol. My SHO will whip my Mustang GT any day. It doesn't sound like the GT and never will, but I can fit the whole family in her and still haul butt. The most important thing is being able to verify the tune and being able to get the Tuner device, and being able to afford maintenance. Nice looking ride too. I always liked the white ones.

I ended up buying the car. The mileage was low enough that I felt comfortable with it, and the mods done were stuff that I would do anyway. It for sure has a tune since I confirmed the 3 bar map on the intake. Also has H+R springs. I left a message with LMS with the VIN, but haven't heard back. Going to call them again on Monday.

Since I don't know which tune it is and don't have anyway to find out since the car was repo'd and auctioned, can I just buy a LMS tuning module and use that to adjust the tune as I need to?

Good deal, you'll love it. Especially if it's tuned already. That's like a 900.00 dollar savings. They should be able to verify it for you and get a module for a decent price. H&R springs are supposed to be real good too, so you're already ahead of the game, they're not cheap either.
