Hi folks.... does anyone know about these headlights? A friend of mine was given them by a Ford engineer. THey are marked as a prototype. He sold his Taurus, and never used them, and just wants to put them on eBay, but has no idea of their value. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

They're probably just pre-production units. I don't see anything different or unique about them compared to the production lights so I don't see them being worth as much as new OEM lights.

Most people also go for the black centennial lights instead, for about $160 new.

I'm not seeing the gold color you are referring to. The Amber turn signal bulb and reflector will give off a yellow hue inside the turn signal housing area.

Interesting to note the sticker is dated 12/20/99 - 4th Gen Taurus production began ~June/July 1999.

Nice clean set of headlights - usually headlights look all milky and cloudy from the deteriorated clearcoat on the clear plastic. So they are worth as much as a used/like new set of OEM headlights.

They definitely have a gold tint to them even under those fluorescent lights. Interesting. Centennials ftw.

maybe $2000. and the car will be much faster due to the high conductivity rates of gold. and all the ladies will be ga ga as well fawning over the car. but my friend will let them go for a pittance. doing him no good....

Definitely a gold tint to the reflectors. A good place to post them up for sale is on TCCA or TSOC, good chance of finding someone on one of those boards who'd like to add a touch of "bling" to the front of their car. While I find these interesting and would like to know more of their back story, and about the special edition that never was, Centennials are more my to my liking.

OK, I give up! What is TCCA or TSOC???

The story on these lights: they were something being worked on as part of some project by a Visteon engineer (spin-off of the old Ford Electronics division). Without much notice, he was let go by Visteon, and they wound up being given to a friend of mine, who has never used them.
