I don't think this quite counts for the maintenance area, but how often does ford do production runs for parts for these cars? I've been waiting on a rear cat for 5 weeks now and still haven't heard if it's even been shipped, much less made. I know of 3 or 4 other people waiting on them too so it's not like they'd be making a 1-off item.

Alot of this is supply chain issues from covid. I would think about a used one if the price isn't crazy

I've tried but not had much success with finding one, all the junk yards around here instantly scrap cats when they get new cars in

Unfortunately the EPA in their infinite wisdom has decreed that it is not legal for a recycler to sell a used cat converter for re-use. Therefore all the recycling / junk yard type places are only allowed to recycle them for the precious metals. That is why when you go to the jy, all the cats have been snipped off.

There are more and more supply chain shortages showing up. Its not just automobiles either as you know if you have tried to buy a mattress recently. Or try to find an aftermarket stereo head unit for your vehicle. Or a refrigerator. Lots of stuff is in short supply and will be for a while.

If you're really desperate I've got a used spare rear cat that I took out of my parts car. It looks clear but you're going to have to weld it in obviously. It's just the cat by itself

Any competent muffler shop welder can make this work as long as the cat itself is good. I would think about it. I have owned the older cars and have to compromise with this kind of issue on the regular

Yeah I've thought about a universal cat, I have the equipment to do everything but weld the pipe myself. I just don't know how well they really work or if it'd just burn out.

Luckiy in my current daily, a 2002 accord, I put the round system in right before covid started. I got really lucky!

aftermarket cats are not great. Sometimes they are good enough to get by and sometimes not. If I had a line on a good priced used oem one I would do that especially if you can find one that is only a few years old or reasonable mileage. Not sure how feasable that is. I also don't know how sensitive the Gen IV platform is to aftermarket. You can look around for individual owners that are parting out their vehicles. Like Jordan was recently

Why not just delete it? The rear catalytic converter isn't monitored.
Mainly because I want to keep the car as stock, and as quiet, as possible. I know the cat doesn't do that much as far as muffling goes but any little bit helps. Also the shop it's at is EPA compliant and won't met me drive it out, I'd have to tow it

If you haven't done so give Ford customer service a call (1800-392-3673 from google) there may be a process that they can follow to help you or your dealership get your part, maybe, a little faster.

So I talked to the shop and Ford and apparently they are still in backorder for a long while, and I do want to buy the used one but the problem is that shipping is behind pretty bad locally (2 weeks+, in the case of my tires they took 4 weeks to get here from within the US). So for now I'm going to try a, maybe, temporary delete.

And so to this apparently it is somewhat, the car's engine light now comes on but I think I could get a tune and get that fixed, since the cat from ford was going to be over $800 from taxes and I can fabricate the delete myself so hopefully I won't be too deep in from the original plan.

If your engine light is coming on and code is for O2 it's the cat in-between the O2 sensors. My code popped up 2years ago for my passenger cat on my 2013. I installed spacers on both sides after cat O2 sensors and have not had a code since. There like 8bucks for a pair of O2 spacers on ebay. The third cat is not monitored.
