wondering if this would be a good place to take it for one

it needs a bunch of things and today i discovered the wonderful oil in the plug wells and i figured might as well get a 60k done instead of just installing new seals

now i know people are gonna say do it yourself but i lack the garage space, knowledge and time

Umm does the name neshospecialists.com ring a bell to you?

Why would you take it to a dealer when fred is within an hour??

And how to you think he gets busy? By people not calling him because hes busy?? Its called business theres a thing called a schedule.

Yea he is really busy, but just cause it sounds like it from here, doesn't mean you can't call him or shoot him an email and ask when he is available. He can do a 60k with his eyes closed hands behind his back, using his toes, I am sure he could fit you in.

The dealer will cost you double what he charges, I can guarantee it. We HATE to work on SHOs and quite frankly most mechanics were not trained properly on how to do a 60k. So therefore you are paying more for a costly mistake.

Go to www.neshospecialists.com and click on 60k services he has MANY different choice of different levels that you can do, therefore you get what you need and what you don't need at an awesome price.

If you live and MA or New England for that matter and you take your car a Ford dealer over Fred for a 60k, either you don't know of him, or you don't get a 60k done, or you are just lazy. And since you are on the forum, you know of him, you know he does the work. You know the work needs to be done. Why take it somewhere else.

I am the biggest proponent of NESS because my car was done right and everyone that I know had thier car done right as well, and you know what. he makes good on any problems and provides you with personal service and knowledge NO Ford mechanic is going to give you on YOUR car.

Edit: Just for reference, people bring thier cars from across the country top have Fred do thier work. Your in the same state! You got it easy.

Chris hit the nail on the head. Give Fred a try, that should be your #1 option. I'm telling you Steve, a 60k is not that hard once you watch the Mark N. video from www.shonutperformance.com and a little research via this forum. If you really don't want to tackle this yourself, I would rather wait a month and take it to Fred than a week and take it to the Ford dealer.

If dealerships were reasonable and trustworthy this forum, and specialist shops, wouldn't exist.

Don't do it!

Don't bring it to a dealer! They probably have no idea how to work on it.
I brought my SHO to my neighborhood dealership to inquire about a replacement part and the garage manager told me they never see my type of car there. So I left immediately.

I now do all my own work on my SHO.

Just for reference, I'm one of them. While I know there are probably others that have driven a longer distance, I'm pretty far out and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If you want it done right the first time you owe it to your car and yourself to give Fred a call.

Heck yeah! Joshua has step by step instructions. Combine that with the vid and a manual for other stuff you could do it.

Raven,

Fred never did any work for me, but I know from his posts that he knows the SHO. I'll jump on the band wagon here and join Freds fan club.

I thought I had it made when I found out my local Ford dealership had a mechanic who owned a SHO, and his brother owns a SHO. It turns out that I have more of the SHO special tools than the dealership, and the dealership has only worked on a couple of SHOs. The most complicated job that they ever did on a SHO was a timing belt. GO TO FRED.

Keep in mind that by the time a SHO needs work it is usually out of warranty, so folks don't go to the dealerships because of the cost.

Bizzy, was not "The Raven" on of Edgar Allen Poe's works?

The dealership is probably the least qualified to work on a SHO (I exagerate a little bit, but perhaps not much). ****, it seems like a lot of them are selling their special SHO tools (probably mostly seldom, if at all used) and helms manuals to various liquidators. The SHO just isn't mainstream enough for many dealer mechanics to say they've worked on one. And time is money so they'll be rushing as they get up to speed working on what's probably the first SHO for them. Just my speculation and $.02. And what's a dealer going to do if they need a discontinued and mostly unavailable part? Go down to autozone to order the aftermarket equivalent?

I went to my local Fored dealer...

which just happens to be the ONLY SVT dealer in Atlantic Canada. I thought "Hey they should know a bit about SHO's" So I asked them not long after I bought the car about changing the back 3 plugs. They asked their oldest serving mechanic..20 years with them...and he had never worked on a SHO. Not really surprising as there are only 4 V-6 SHO's and 3 V-8 in Fredericton. Just goes to SHO (lol) that even thought they sold them..probably don't work on them much.

Yessir. That it was.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
'Tis some visitor', I muttered, tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.

Everyone here makes excellent points!

Another is that when you figure that a new V6 SHO hasn't rolled off the assembly line in over 9 years, that the majority of techs at any given dealership were probably not even out of grammar school when the car was first introduced, and lucky if they were out of high school by the time the last one was made. Every day that ticks by, there is less and less likelyhood to be able to find a tech at any dealership that has any experience working on a V6 SHO, nevermind the intricate details of a 60K service. I wouldn't worry as much if you were talking about a radiator, brakes, suspension, and similar components which are basically the same to work on as any other Taurus out there, but do you really want some rookie in your motor? I wouldn't!

The next problem is finding a dealer willing to work on your car at all. Because you bought yours used from a dealer (Nassar IIRC), they might be willing to at least consider doing some work on it, but any other dealer is probably not going to want to get anywhere near it.

Your also not going to be able to just ask a dealer for a "60K service". You'll need to specifically list out each and every detail you want addressed.

Do yourself a favor; call or email Fred, and get a price quote from his "menu" of services for what you're looking to have done. Then make a list of those services, and start calling around to dealers to get a price quote. Since they will use the SLTS book to calculate the labor at their standard hourly rate, and probably charge you full list price for all parts, I suspect you'll get price quotes around triple to quadruple what Fred quotes you!
