I have an intermittent problem where the lighting for the button on the football will go out. The displays and the HVAC system all continue to function though when this occurs. I will also occasionally have luck getting them to turn back on by banging on the passengers side dash either near above the football or on the dash. Are their any connections on that side of the car (or under the dash near the passengers feet) that only send power to the button lights? Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

It's some sort of film lighting. You can try taking it out and making sure the secondary plug connectors are clean and secure.

I was actually wondering the same thing! The only difference/problem that mine is having is that the lighting on the whole football goes out intermittently.....only when the headlights and parking lights are not on, other than that, they always come on when the exterior lights are on....I have yet to pull the football out to see if all the connections are clean and secure, but I'm sure that there is a bad connection in there somewhere. Another thing that usually remedies the problem is just giving the football a lovetap and the lights work again.......

Are these secondary connectors your referring to actually inside the football? What I mean is do I need to pull the football out and then remove the little screws holding the back panel on to the football to get at them. I dont' want to break the whole thing by taking apart something I shouldn't. Thanks!

There is at least one and you have to take the football out. Easy to do with the removal pins unless someone has sprung the clips that hold it in.

Ok so I pulled out the football. It looked like there were really like 6 or so screws (larger silver ones) that seemed to hold the front face on. However even after removing them I still can't get it off. It seems to be stuck near the top where near the display for the radio. Are there more screws or maybe some that are hidden that need to be removed? :thankyou:

Ok, solved the mystery. There was one torx screw that was a different size from the other two screw types. It was holding the plastic bracket to the metal frame for the cassette deck (I believe). Once I removed this screw along with all the others it easily came apart. Then connections that appeared to power the lighting for the buttons looked good but I disconnected and cleaned it anyway. Put it all back together and tested a few times and the button lights stayed on. Hopefully the vibrations from the car don't shake it loss again. :)

Thanks for the guidance!

Good to hear. I've had a power drain in the CC button board. It would drain the battery after about three, four days. Also use to take the cassette player out. Shave a pound or two off........
