fluctuating rpms

Question I have a 90 MTX, And every now and then when I start the car my rpms shoot up between 2,000 and 3,000. and then fluctuate between 1,000 and 2,000 really fast.Also when coming to a stop it does the same thing as soon as I push in the clutch.

Erratic idle speed, huh? Can't say I've ever seen that problem with SHOs.
