I also have a 1990 that occasionally has a flashing air bag light. It starts flashing a few seconds after start up, and won't go off unless you turn the engine off, and start it again. Usually, it stays out after one or two restarts.

My only concern is that there really is something wrong, and the damn thing will explode in my face sometime when I'm just driving down the road. I just don't really know how to diagnose this problem, and since the light only comes on occasionally, it hasn't been a big deal.

Code 55 is "disarmed." An airbag can deploy, flashing or not. If code 55 is flashing, it will not deploy in the event of an accident.

Many manufacturers reccoment airbag system testing every 5 to 10 years for this reason.

I wouldn't worry about the airbag randomly going off, but I would worry about a malfunction in the event of an accident.

I have an air bag code 42... can anyone tell me what that means.
Is there a good resource for the airbag system?
