I know they fit in the V6 without problems....do they work on the V8? And how much more oil does it hold?

I know from experience that you will be putting about another half a quart in your system with an FL-1A. FWIW, I would highly recommend getting the Mobil 1 M1-301 (it crosses). It is a much higher quality filter and will be much better for your car!

I read an analysis once that basically says that running the FL1A will increase the bypass valve opening from 2000 to 2500 RPM, thus allowing filtering to a higher rev range at the same pressure drop.

I have heard of people using FL1As on G3s, so you shouldn't have any problems. You might if your subframe is all the way forward, though.

The larger filter will easily fit on the V8 as it is mounted vertical. It does get a bit closer to the exhaust down pipe though. I made a heat shield that simply clamps onto the filter.

on a lightly driven SHO, would that distance to the exhaust create a problem?

I've run the Amsoil equivalent of the FL-1A on my V8 SHOs since day 1 without a problem. You'll want to up the total oil fill to 7 quarts.

As long as the car is moving, I don't really see a problem with the slightly closer proximity to the exhaust manifold, and even at idle the temps really don't get that high anyway.

I use to run the bigger filter until I got a stash of the obsolete AC Delco UPFL400A. Rated up there with the Mobil 1 and K&N filters.

Fram oil filters HP or not are:hpoop:
