Just wanted to let everyone know to fix your brakes as soon as you think something is wrong with them...for the love of god. I had to have my rear rotors and calipers replaced and it cost me $604. I'm sure I got horribly ripped off...damn...

Yeah, horribly would be an understatement. If you had been able to do them yourself, you probably would have gotten out of it for under $200.

Rear Rotors: ~$50/pair
Rear Pads: ~$20
Rebuilt Calipers: ~$80/pair unloaded, ~$120 loaded
Add another ~$20 for brake fluid, sliding pin grease, etc.

You did not get horribly ripped off. I believe this would be the going rate to replace the rear brake components.

Did the calipers get fried because you waited too long to fix them, or were they fried anyway?

$604  Yeah, I would say they really bent you over bad. There is at least one chain store in my area that will do a complete brake job, front or rear for under $200 out the door. That includes reman calipers, but not rotors.

Don't fret over it too much. Just ask yourself are you happy with the results? If so, so be it.

One of my co-workers went in to a local shop recently with a stuck caliper on his GTI. $1200 repair bill later and he was out the door. Same deal, replaced rear rotors and rear calipers.

Just as a sidenote, brakes are very easy things to fix and diagnose. Pull a wheel every once in a wheel and check em out.
