First oil change on my SHO

I just did my first oil change on my SHO (~1400 miles). I wasn't sure at first what to expect with the plastic cover under the transaxle, but it was really easy to find the 4 wing nut style screws holding it in place. Everything was easy to get to, and after working on a few Ford 4.6L 2- and 4-valve motors it was great to see an oil filter facing straight up and right where I could get to it (Chevy was great with this). This would have been a 15-min. job if it wasn't 20 degrees out with an icy driveway.

What mileage intervals are you guys changing your oil at? I assume you all run full synthetics.

Made my first change at 1000 and change it every 3000. Use Mobil 1 with a K&N filter. Probably a little excessive but I believe worth the cost

FWIW, a few years ago, Subaru changed their recommendations for turbos to the Severe Duty cycle, which is a change every 3,750 miles.

I used to follow their 7,500 mile changes with synthetic (which Subaru has no opinion on), but I have now gone back to dino every 3,750.

Yeah, this is a Subaru recommendation, but they have been doing turbos for a LOT longer than Ford.

Is the k&n oil filter really that good? I always heard that motorcraft oil filters where pretty good and the best to use for Ford cars cause of there specific design. Not looking for an argument just want to know what are the best parts for my car.

First change at 4000 miles with 5W20 Synthetic blend. The rest I will plan to do at 3500 mile intervals with full synthetic.

When I was younger, I did all my changes on both cars. As I got older, and wiser (?), I found that the time involved in buying the oil and filter, getting all the jack stands, jack, oil pan, rags, tools, clean up, putting everything back, running to the recycle lot to dump the oil and filter, well, it just wasn't worth it. I let to dealer do it, the car gets an added inspection for things I might not have looked at. I've been a customer with this dealer for over 15 years, I can talk to any of the techs, walk the repair floor, watch them work on my car. Keeps them in business, keeps my garage floor clean, etc. I also run Mobile 1 full synthetic. As most of my mileage is road running, I average about 7k between changes, Ford recommends 7.5k on dyno oil, that won't happen. 1st two changes were at 3k, and 6k with the dino oil, 6k went to Mobile 1 full synthetic, the last two were at 12.5 and 19k. Car has 19.5k on it now.

Agreed. I take mine to a Mobil 1 oil shop about 10 miles from my house. Actually I need to go tomorrow since im at 3,100 miles right now. The extra money is worth me not having to crawl under a car.

I'm with you on this one, I use Mobil One but I like the Mobil One oil filter. I haven't been a big fan of K&N since they wouldn't honor their warranty on the air filter because I didn't have the receipt for purchase, even though it was on the correct vehicle....really soured me on K&N's Customer Service.

Motorcraft filters are OK, and they used to be recommended simply because the had the anti-drain back valve, but now almost all filters have them. I really like the Mobil One oil filters, just hold both the Motorcraft and the Mobil One...the Mobil One is much heavier...not that this proves anything on it's own, but I believe because of added filtering material or better quality filter media, and a heavier canister.

The Motorcraft filter is ok. I used to use a Mobil 1 filter as well, but, honestly it filters too good from what I've read hence doesn't flow as well. That was my reason for switching. I kinda like the but in the end as well

I hadn't heard of any flow problems with the Mobil One filter...I've used them on 4.6 and 5.4 Triton V-8's as well as a GMC V-6...using them for well over 10 years. I haven't experienced any flow or pressure issues with the Mobil One.
