I am going to try and make it to my first autoX in the turbo SHO. this is not my first event but will be my first with the turbo on there. I predict no traction on the inside wheel... on most turns.

the event is on sunday and I can't wait. all i can say is my brakes are going to hate me.

No, with the turbo it eats power, so he will be getting way less power than stock!!!

I know we tell ppl there are no dumb questions, but i have to say that was a dumb question!!!

that wasn't a dumb question, the turbo might be laggy and produce less than or about the same power as stock at 4,000 rpms. it is possible you know. Sucking air through all that piping before the turbo has spooled enough to force it through, can hinder your power levels.

Somedude, what kind of power levels are you running? You might want to look into some kind of LSD or something to fix those one wheel peel situations. I don't know what they have for the ATX's as far as LSD's go (if anything) but I'm sure something could be fabbed up. also, what brakes/tires are you running? and how much boost too?

i dont agree that the turbo is going to eat power while circling an autocross track @ 4k in second gear ... it should be pretty happy at that rpm actualy ...

I'm not saying that it will "eat" power. but in first gear(it is an atx, I doubt he'll be doing 4k in second gear around a parking lot, especially with an open diff) at 4k if the turbo is too big, and it lags enough, he might not have any power at 4k in first. I'm not saying that is the case, but it is possible. Hence the reason I said it was not a dumb question... I'm sure he has more power at 4k than stock, but it is possible that in first gear it might lag enough for him to not have more power than stock at that rpm. turbo's need a load to spool and sometimes it is hard to spool it fully if the turbo is not sized properly.

bah, said second, ment first

comment still stands, it takes a bit of time for it to spool from a launch, but when running around a course @ 4k, it has the exhaust flow it needs to spool the turbo at will

Disconnect the front sway bar endlink. That should free up some traction for the front wheels, at the expense of rear grip (ie. lots of oversteer.)

I never said it would not see boost, but I said it is possible.

don't worry the car makes more power than stock at all rpms, and usually the autoX i'm going to (this particular location) i am between 3000-7500rpm well when it was a stock engine at least. cobras on 11.6's for brakes and junk tires.

I think you will have a really fun time. I reccomend getting some better tires though, or a lighter foot

lol @ the idea of alex ever having a lighter foot ...

only way that could happen is if you tied his toes to his shin

alex drives in boost at all times ... its insane

well if the turbo setup was making lots of power in the 4k rpm range, I would almost try doing most of the run in manual 2nd..... cause it will roast the tread right off crappy tires lol..... you might have a better shot of getting some traction in 2nd.... I dunno I'd experiment around with it and see just how bad of traction you will have if you tried to run it in 1st....

and roy if he has a big turbo it could hinder performance, especially when not in boost..... I can name a couple restrictions that would restrict airflow compared to a N/A stock setup, if the turbo has lag, prior to that part in the power curve, he could be making less power then a stock sho.... it is possible.

so bite me pal haha

your right it is possible on paper... but it doesn't make less power than stock anywhere int he RPM range except for the bog when i try to launch it.

not that the time will mean anything to anyone here that didn't see the course first hand but I rana 53.09 +1 as my best time durring a fun run. for some odd reason i kept taking out the same cone on the easy sloulm, LF tire every time, i wasn't clipping it i was running over it lol. other that that my runs were pretty clean.

the course was a pretty fast one so I was able to maintain a good amount of speed. turbo lag was not a issue at all the problem at all, infact i think lowering the boost a lot would improve my times greatly, but where is the fun in that.

there is a driver there that drives the crap out of his corolla to the tune of 55's all day so i let him take my car for a spin durring a fun run, and he definately enjoyed the car. him pulling a 55 second run in a car he has never driven was amazing. he commented that he was used to flooring it comming out of a corner in the corolla (100crank hp he said :) ) and the SHO just spinns "I LOVE IT" he even let out a "YEEEHAAAAA" comming out of one of the turns entering one of the short straights spinning the front tires the whole way. going from 100 crank HP to over 400 is a heck of a jump :) .

it was fun the car did very well but with a decent drive cutting 2-3 seconds would be possible.

need some more seat time I think i'm not pushing the car hard enough. i've barely driven the thing this year. but yes something other than the factory tires off a acura TL would be much better.
