I wanna take the taurus badge off the back and replace it with a brand new 3.2 badge from an audi I believe. I think it would look nice and so do my friends. First off, do you guys think that would look good?? And second, How can I fill in the two holes on the decklid that make the badge secure and straight?? I dont think bondo would work well cause I dont wanna sand on my paint..What do you guys thinK??

Bondo or weld. I would rather weld them in. Either way to do it right your going to need to repaint.

A kid i work with shaved badges on his S-10. all he did was glue a small piece of plasice on one side, and built up the other side with tuch up paint. Looked decent but very hack IMO

Will paint thinner strip off excess bondo?? Also how much do you think a body shop shoud charge to do this if I gave them touch up paint and simply said "fill in these holes and use the touch up paint" Id guess like maybe 50-60 bucks??

If a body shop does it they will have to paint it with a gun and blend the paint for it to look decent.

Nope

I seriously doubt that you can tell a body shop to "fill in the holes and use this touch up paint" They are on the hook for the work and their reputation.

You can get small tubes of filler- if you are really careful and take your time, you might get something halfway decent, but it doesn't sound like you want to spend the $$$ to make it look really good- and anything short of doing it the right way will look like a hack job with filler and touchup paint and probably won't meet your expectations...

Good luck- I'll be interested to see what the badge looks like!

Ohh I doubt that they will use it also. I dont mind spending the cash I was just looking for a DIY way. I might put the 3.2 badges in the place of the 24V DOHC badges on the sides. I have been in touch with a guy from www.autobadges.com Im placing an order for 2 fender badges that say:

3.2
SHO

But they wont be too large prolly about 2 1/2 inches wide and about 2 inches tall. When Im done I will post pics. Im trying to go for something origional, and I have never seen a SHO with this before!!

really, that depends on the colour. There wouldn't be much blending required if the car still had the factory spolier...

How so?

FWIW, the amount of blending is usually dependent on whether or not the paint is metallic.

I got a spoiler since I cracked mine and heres what I can pass on about blending and paint information. First and formost, call around. Second, I can not recomend bondo for that size of hole, you are better off welding and grinding the same day you plan on taking the car to the shop, or the night before. When you weld the hole shut, grind it down then using a putty knife apply the bondo over the weld and let it set up. Do your sanding with a block (you can use a block of wood and sandpaper) at about 320 grit and then I went from there to 600 to 800 to 1200. You just want to get rid of all the high spots. It's better to start high and work low untill you get rid of almost all the bondo than to find a big low spot in the bondo/weld. After you have it all bondo'd up take it to the shop, the area you had to sand they will cover and blend and clear coat. For my spoiler it took them a total of 2-to-4oz of paint (didn't matter that it was metalic they will only change price if its chameleon) and about 6oz of clear. The total cost to have them paint the spoiler and blended for me was $150. The bodyshop will only charge for what they use, not per pint or quart or whatever.

A note on blending, depending on how faded the paint is will determine the amount of blending. I cant tell from your picture but if it is the KM metallic blue like my car it wouldnt cost anything more than regular paint. You're lookin at about maybe a $75-100 job, or at the worst $150.

Shop around!

Pardon the pun, but shop around... I agree! I had gotten prices to strip, fix some damage to the front (fill some 1/2" holes) and repaint my front bumper cover red/clear until I found a spare one for sale. The three quotes I had gotten were $447.00, $512.00, and $595.00 plus tax. It pays to look around. Even some of the places had different times to paint the bumper- I figured that the labor on the strip and fix portion would vary, but once the cover was done, the painting I thought would have been flat-rated out of the book for the most part. Some of them had 1 hour, one had 2 hrs...

Shop around!

Best of luck! :thumb:

by colour, I meant metallic or not...

alot of shops will colour match as close as they can and use the spoiler to cover up where they painted the back of the trunk but left the top untouched. That is what they were going to do with mine when the back of my trunk lid was damaged...

Gotcha. I kinda figured that's what you meant. It's amazing the science and skill that's involved in getting paint to look right.

are you pulling the ford badge off, and thinking of putting a new badge on that same spot? that would be your best bet...go to the hardware store and grab a tube of crafters/shoe/household goop...thats what its called (the same product in like 3 or more different labeled tubes). its like silicone, so it'll prolly stay on forever. i did this before on one of my cars.
