Hey all, I want to wire my dual fans into my fog light switch on my '90 because I deleted my fog lights and I would like to put my fans on a switch for the track so they would run constantly. If this isn't a good idea please let me know, but if its ok, how do I make the switch turn on without having my headlights on? I wasn't sure if this was an engine thread or an electrical thread, if its in the wrong place sorry. Thanx, Dave.

theres a way to wire your foglights to come one with out your headlights.
do a search on "fog light mod" and something should come up.
IIRC it was rather complex mod for something so simple though.
if i were you,id just find a toggle switch you like and wire it that way, maybe mount it down by the shifter,or wherever to your own liking.

But the thing is I would rather have a 'clean' look than add another switch. Since I'm not going to be using the fog light switch at all I might as well use it for something. I'll do a search though. Thanx

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to do it. You just have to have a constant 12v source to the fog light switch. Then install a 30amp relay under the hood, and use the fog light switch for the trigger on the relay.

EDIT: I meant to say, a keyd, constant 12v source. That way it will shut off when the car shuts off.

Here is an idea from SHOZ123. I bought the Flex-a-lite 31147 switch because my fans weren't coming on. The switch is adjustable works for me. The fog light switch could be used in conjunction with with the Flex-a-lite switch or wired to the CCRMIRCM relay to turn the fans on. The following is a paraphrase of two of Paul's posts. For further information, search "Flex-a-lite".

It's really easy to do and you can insert a Flex-a-lite thermostatic switch into the t-stat output and upper radiator hose easily.

You should use the relay in the CCRM. Otherwise you are switching 40A and it takes a big switch and 12 ga wire.

The Flex-i-lite switch has an additional tab on it to connect a switch too. It parallels the input logic.

Don't use a switched 12 volt circuit for your fans control, they already have the 12 volts there and waiting for a ground the be sent from the computer.

Take the two wires from the foglight switch and attach one to a good ground and the other you will bridge onto the wire that goes from the computer to the CCRM that activates the fan control relay in the CCRM. By bridging instead of replacing you still keep the computers ever watchfull eye on your temperature.

So in summation, send a ground to the wire that grounds the fan relay. If you don't know which one it is, I will delve into it later and let you know.

Thanx for the help guys, there is also another thing I forgot to mention, I only have one fan hooked up to the relay. Can I just 'Y' the harness that goes to that one fan and splice a connector in for the other?

"You should use the relay in the IRCM/CCRM. Otherwise you are switching 40A and it takes a big switch and 12 ga wire."

The above advice from SHOZ123. If you aren't using the IRCM/CCRM to activate the fans, you need something that will handle 40a.

Tom, doesn't this just turn the fans to the low speed?
I've tried grounding the the wire, and all I got was the low speed.

FWIW, to Ocnaj, I use my EATC to turn my fans on using the Flr./Def. button. But anything that turns the A/C compressor on will turn the fan(s) on (to high as well).
