what the impedence(ohm rating) on the factory sub? My meter read 5.3ohms but i know my sub is badly blown and this effects the reading.

I had asked a question about the JBL system a wile back relating to this. I got the answer that the speaker were 6ohm. I would think that the sub would be the same ohm load as the other speakers in the system.

Yes the NOMINAL IMPEDANCE of the factory sub is 6 ohms, but it will most likely read less on a meter. Speakers tend to read less on a meter than what is stated. My 12" Soundstream SPL subs are DVC and each coil reads 3.8 ohms.

I figured it was 6 but my sub was pretty badly blown and when a speaker is blown the impedence generally goes down considerably. I have a 6.5 sub from my other car that a friend blew and it doesnt even have any resistance.

Does anybody know where you can get a 6.5 sub with a 6 ohm coil?

If the speaker coil blows it opens up and you will get an infinite reading. Usually speakers coils are either good or open.

Most coil ratings are a nominal rating. Whatever the meter reads is the actual reading. How would you get a true reading if it wasn't with a meter?

That all depends on if you are using a DMM or an analog meter...

THey still have analog meters? :D That's like asking someone if they use their 8-track player still.

If you're wanting to replace the 6.5 inch factory, this topic has been gone over a hundred times. Search and you'll find recommendations for a good replacement. Since you probably won't find a 6 ohm sub anywhere, putting a regular 4 ohm'er in there isn't going to hurt anything. The factory sub amp is supposed to be rated at 85 watts rms @ 6 ohms but it's not putting out that much power. So by dropping the inpedance a little using a new sub it's not going ot hurt it.
