This is an interesting problem that recently developed on my factory JBL Premium Sound (with CD and Subwoofer) system. The car is a '93, and the problem is that the settings on my audio control such as bass, treble, balance, last station tuned in, etc. aren't saved when the ignition key is shut off. If I shut the power off on the radio, and leave the engine running, it retains all my settings if I power up the radio again. I have a spare factory radio and CD player from another '93 SHO that I swapped out, and the problem doesn't change no matter which unit is installed.

The stations stored in the radio memory are saved after the key is off, and the cassette will also eject when the key is off. Does anyone have any ideas on what might solve this mystery?

is your "always hot" power wire cut, pinched, or frayed? that could be ur problem i had that problem in my old SLO, and it makes ya mad doesnt it! try going here: jbl wiring diagrams and check for the "B+" or "Always Hot" wire and check that, if that doesnt solve the prob, check ur other wires while u got the decks out!

Thanks for that info...The "always hot" lead was my first thought, too. I figured that since cassette ejects with the key off, that the always hot wire is working properly.

I did discover something interesting last night. The settings are saved when I shut off the key. If I only turn the key to accessory and power the radio up, the settings are still where they were set before turning off the power. But, when I turn the key to start the car, the radio shuts off, and has to be turned back on. The settings that were just there before cranking the engine over are gone. I'm wondering if my ignition switch is defective, and is causing a temporary loss of the power to the radio???

just a small hunch, but try connecting ur ground wire with a ring terminal to the metal where your center console mounts. thats what i did with my aftermarket stereo, and it doesnt dim when my bass hits now, so idk...i could also be really far off.....

Next to the constant 12v source, I thought there might be a ground issue, but when I discovered the settings only drop out when the car is cranked over, my feeling is that the ignition switch is causing the problem. I'm going to replace it as soon as I can, and I'll let everyone know if this fixes the problem.
