Replaced the cam seals, among other things, on the 95 today, mostly as as a preventative measure while replacing the leaking water pump.

Anyway, I guess I got a little bit too confident in my abilities while removing the exhaust cam seal and nicked the aluminum on the head. I think I removed enough aluminum in the right spot that the new seal is going to leak. I went ahead and buttoned everything up, hoping that its not going to leak, but I have a feeling that it will. I drove the car for a couple miles, but couldn't tell that it was leaking (I didn't look hard).

Anybody found a decent method to cure a leak here caused my stupidity, other than replacing the head? I really don't want to have oil leaking all over the place on this car, because everything is so clean underneath.

BTW, I'm ******.

Nicking the cam is better than the head, you can replace the cam fairly inexpesively. If you got that much of the head, you can try a dab of RTV at the outside of the seal / head interface IF it leaks.

You could also try to re-shape the seal / head interface area with a filler of some kind, but that'd likely cause more problems than it's worth. Good news, 3.0L HG's are more plentiful & inexpensive.

like the post above me, dab some RTV (the black kind) in nick before you put the seal back in and you should be ok. I've seen worse than this believe me. Fortunately you didnt nick a critical mating surface of the head, e.g. head gasket.

I was tempted to put a dab of RTV in when I put the seal in, but I didn't do it. I'm still pretty steamed at myself for doing this.

BTW and kinda irrelevant, something I noticed was that the Ford seals that I installed Saturday were slightly different in design than the Fel-Pro and some other brand seals I had installed before.

Chris, you're right. It's a SHO so it belongs in the junkyard. :) Although this may be a valid excuse to put the 3.3 in this car ;)

AFSHO, you need to hit up the FSHOC and get together with us.

Did the same today while removing my rear exhaust cam seal. I used some emery cloth and cleaned it up a bit, and it looks like its farther out on the cam than the seal is, so it shouldnt and I hope it doesnt leak.

BTW Im ****** too! lol

I have a hard time installing the FelPro cam & crank seals over the Fords, FWIW.

This time I used the Rotunda installation tools, which I had never used before. Very easy to install.
