Hi all. first post so forgive me if there is a thread already on this. I just bought a 2013 SHO fully loaded with 40k on it. do you guys think its a good idea to get the extended warranty ford if offering. no deductible, they pay for rental and its for 6 yrs 125,000 miles. it would run me 2000.00. is it worth getting? any feedback would be appreciated

My personal opinion is, yes get the warranty as long it is the Premium Care. You will likely not be happy with anything less. I found out, after a collision with a deer in my 2013, that if you have an issue with one of the HID headlights it will cost you $1500. I will be getting one before my factory warranty is up around Thanksgiving 2015.

When I purchased my 14k mile '13 CPO SHO I also bought an extended warranty. With all of the electronics and what not, LCD displays, etc. etc. etc. I do not want to have to eat the cost of having to pay out of pocket for them. I did do some negotiating to get the cost of the warranty down also but I know that not all dealers will even consider doing it.

If you were buying a fiesta...not a chance but with a car like this I think it's a wise decision. Just my $.02.

Good luck!

just make sure it is the real Ford product, not something by some aftermarket insurance company. $2k is a very fair price for the 6yr/125k mile Ford warranty.

I bought one for my CPO for the reasons r1 stated. I got a good deal so the cast was still within my budget. have used it a couple times for pretty minor things I (wheel bearing, tie rod end) I would have let get worse - before acting without the extended warranty.

Extended warranty might not be a bad idea. But def don't purchase for the dealer. I've seen price quotes for roughly half that. Do some research online. I don't remember the site but better prices are out there for the same warranty.

Edit: found the site that I have heard good things about. Ziegler Auto group. Check it out.

counterpoint to oma81 - there are two reasons that the dealer-sold products are more money than the others.

the first, and most important, is that the Ford Premium-Care Warranty actually covers virtually everything on the car. most of the 'aftermarket' warranties have so many exclusions that by the time you read it you think almost nothing is actually covered, and you would be correct.

the second is that, depending on the dealer, they may not discount it from the 'suggested retail' price, so it might cost a few hundred dollars more than it could. one is nearly always able to negotiate the price down some.

if you want an extended warranty that actually provides coverage, get the Ford product, not an aftermarket product.

The Ziegler Auto reference IS to the Ford ESP warranty, just purchased online, another place is Flood Ford. Good deals to be had there. The main advantage of buying from the dealer is rolling the cost into the payment plan if you can't afford/don't want to pay the price all at once. Now if you can negotiate the price down at the dealer's using the online pricing, can't beat that!

Great feedback and i appreciate everyone's help. . I'm probably gonna pull the trigger. Gonna have to go through the dealer though just cause I can't afford to shell out 2300.00 at one time.

Definitely try to negotiate with them. You certainly can lose anything by trying.

Good luck and enjoy the car!

I think I paid around $1,700 for mine, ...yes I negotiated
However, at this point, the car has proven so reliable, I'm not sure that gamble/bet is going to pay off.
