Having never been to this particular show, what expectations should I have for Carlisle?

First, are the local police "accommodating", or will it be a feeding-frenzy? (ie. the "black-and-white" sharks waiting with blood-baited breath)

I remember when they started the Street Machines Nationals, the first three years were pretty cool. By the end of the first night the first year, locals had figured out what was going-on and rigged-up "water boxes" up and down at least two of the three main cruises. In some sections you couldn't go an entire block before someone was jumping in the street with a running garden hose, begging for a burnout. One guy even went so far as to paint a starting line for two (but the Indy police depart decided to make a permanent presence at that corner ;) ). That "okay, let 'em have a little fun" stay-out-of-jail-pass lasted about 3 years before the "have-mores" (a.k.a. well-to-dos) started whinning loud enough that the police [tried] to crack down. So after a few years the SMNs moved to Springfield Illinois, before getting run out of there and later to Sedalia Missouri.

So, is it laid-back, laid-back within reason, or don't even think about it....?

Second, how big of a vendor event is this? Can I expect to drive away with, lets say, new rims or tires from a major vendor, at Tirerack.com prices? How about high performance products from Crane Cams, Holley, Lunatti, TRW, etc.?

Third, given that Carlisle is a near-year-round event now with the various shows they sponsor, is it going to be like tourist-town Florida, with Tourist town prices (did I say price-gouging, sorry).

Four, how big is the swap meet? Could I literally fill the trunk if I went dillusional with cash and the cc?

Don't expect the main drag to the hotel to be a dragway. You might get a away with a little fun, but with this many people, the cops will be out. This concept was too foreign for the ricers, and is the reason why their show was moved to Harrisburg.

Carlisle has a huge vendor/swap meet area. Don't expect to find anything to buy for the SHO. That being said, you might spot one or guy guys with a pile of SHO parts or complete cars.

Carlisle is not a tourist town in any way. It's just like any other town in south central PA..

It's cash and carry for the most part. Unless it's muddy, bring your walking shoes. The best stuff goes quickly, so your best bet is to start browsing on Friday.

If I were going to play, pro-stock street weekend, I wouldn't be driving the SHO. Was just curious as to the overall "johnny-law atmosphere". Until I get my Quaife installed, you wouldn't see me even chirping the tires, much less doing a.... :burnout:

The two reasons I am going are the Mercury Cougar 40th Anniversary, as well as to meet some of the forum members (you guys) in case I don't get to go to the convention for the umpteenth time. I would drive my 69 XR-7 convertable (does huge smokies), but at 10-11 mpg (that is if I put the 4.11s back in) for a 1900 mile round-trip was just a little too expensive ($600 in gas versus $250, it has 13-to-1 TRW high dome pistons and a .540"/.520" lift custom-grind cam, for a nice little bit of cam-loap). Plus the SHO has a larger rear trunk (and seat, if necessary!). Now, if I just find a set of cherry 69-70 Cougar front fenders and some spare ragtop parts, life will be sweet !!!

My, how approproate, this is post number 289 - love that number.... :burnout:
