Hey I am a new SHO owner and looking to do some exhaust upgrades.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good exhuasts that would give good sound, but also still legal in states like Illinois that have emissions. I want catless downpipes (think they sound good) but I do not think would pass emissions.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

they won't pass emission inspection. You could always swap them in and out if you are a glutton for punishment

Well. You're location is listed as being Chicago.

Which, is literally THE WORST possible option for you. Not only because its located in Cook (a.k.a. "Crook") County, but also the highest concentration of population, vehicles, etc.

You won't get away with catless living there.

There are some collar counties that aren't as stringent, but it's a crapshoot.

The HP differences are negligible. Particularly when backdropped against the uphill, recurring battles you'll be facing.

Stick with CATS, and strongly consider the PPE products, as they're the only catted versions that claim 50 State compliance from what I recall.

Good luck!

Technically I live in the suburbs, but

Technically I’m from the suburbs. But still need to pass emissions.

I was looking at corsa cat back or magnaflow. There isn’t much info on how they sound. I am looking for a good rumble and sound while accelerating but not overly obnoxious.

I am not familiar with PPE, do you know any brands or products you like specifically?

My recommendation on PPE was specific to their DP's as it relates to improving performance AND keeping emissions compliancy in mind.

As far as catback systems go.....

Completely subjective and of personal preference. Hopefully others will chime in with some vids of their set ups.

Keep in mind, it's a turbo platform. There are limitations on that true "rumble" commonplace with a cammed V8 for example.

Due to not desiring anything to "obnoxious", I refrained from suggesting cut outs.

Anyhoo...... here's a link for PPE.

Hope it's of some help.

I absolutely love my PPE Downpipes. Like @bpd1151 said the catted versions are the only ones that will pass emissions and not set a code. PPE is also a nice home grown business that is great to do business with and support.

Thanks to you Illinoisans I also have to pass emissions in neighboring northwest Indiana. I can personally vouch for catted PPE downpipes. They perform and do pass emissions.

Downpipes alone do not make much of a difference in sound. A little deeper, more healthy maybe... if that’s a sound? Basically, if you retain the factory catback you wouldn’t hear it and think, I wonder what’s been done to the exhaust.

I don’t hate, but in my opinion all available aftermarket catback systems for the SHO sound like garbage. It’s a turbo V6, and to me, that just isn’t a good sounding engine untamed.

Was I the only one who it took about 5 attempts to say Illinoisans fluidly?

Speaking of downpipes. I see all the talk about PPE and Stainless Works but no one talks about the OBX downpipes. Are they junk? For half the price, you would think more people would bring them up.

My OBX "worked" I had to beat the **** out of one for fitment. Lot of weird bends that don't make sense and the stainless will rust pretty quick.

I just received my PPE catted/ceramic coated DP's today and should be putting them on in June. The high quality craftsmanship and glossy sheen they emit is almost... mystical.
