Exhaust Question?

I have a rattle sound when I rev the motor to about 2000 to 2500 RPM's. I just had a flex spring put on at the cat cause the old on rusted out. Are these known for losing the heat shields like the Hondas and Acuras are? I just cant seem to tell whats is rattling, it's hard to do by yourself. Please advise. Thank you

could be..although,i'd be more worried about the cat being broken. If it is small pieces can be sucked back up in the cc,and **** your motor.

indeterminant rattle

I had a very similar problem just recently. My concern was also a broken cat (which I was confused about since my y-pipe has less than 25k miles on it). After several attempts to locate the problem, I determined that the baffle in the resonator was rattling. This past weekend I removed the resonator and replaced it with a straight piece of pipe. I also installed a dynomax catback system I had laying around from my previous ride. Results: No more rattle and a whole lot more bark to its bite!

As for the resonator, a quick look inside the resonator revealed that half of the baffle had come loose and was just sitting there inside the canister, right in the path of the exhaust gases. Couldn't have been good for performance. At any rate, you may want to get under the car and check the resonator before assuming that your cat is bad.
